Meet our newest sidekick and digital construction team member, "BB-8!" BB-8 is an HP SitePrint Robot that prints a digital CAD layout onto a physical project surface, whether a plywood deck, concrete slab, finish floor, or anything in between. This new robot is helping us streamline layout and improve accuracy for MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) penetrations on some of our largest and most complex projects. It's also helping us define structural elements like slab edges, concrete and block walls, slab depressions, etc. These photos show BB-8 mid-print run with project coordinator Cedrick Glasgow at the controls. The field of MEP hanger knockers in the background shows work the robot has already completed. Next up on our list is interior layout. BB-8 will tackle everything from wall framing and casework to RCPs (reflected ceiling plans) and MEP trim out. Who knew such a tiny team member could contribute so much, so accurately? Our South Florida team has been enjoying this innovative new tool and the added time savings. "The newest device in construction isn't a gargantuan piece of heavy machinery. Instead, it's a neat little yellow robot that could be your Roomba's more robust cousin. This three-wheeled portable robot prints complex construction site layouts in a fraction of the time it would take a team of humans." - Hillary Richard, Hewlett-Packard. #hpsiteprint #hpsiteprintrobot #layoutrobot #constructiontech #constructionrobot #constructionlayout #digitalconstruction #dowbuilt

Today, we’re celebrating 15 years with our VP of Construction, Kajsa Jungaro, and chatting with her about what drew her to Dowbuilt in the first place. “When I came to Dowbuilt 15 years ago, I wanted to push myself beyond the Pacific Northwest and Washington State. I wanted to learn more about building and construction management in different regions and not settle for the familiar. I loved Jim Dow’s ambition to build incredible architecture, so it was a natural fit. “To date, I’ve managed projects in Washington, New York, and California, which has kept things exciting. We now build in 16 states, so I’ve had to become an expert on construction law, lien releases, and contractual requirements in all those areas.” What’s kept you at Dowbuilt? “I’m lucky to work with amazing people and super-talented builders. I’ve never looked at other opportunities because I know how good I have it at Dowbuilt. Many of our supers and principals have been the best comrades and teachers. They have taught me so much about constructability and boosted my confidence with their support. Our work is inspired, challenging, and highly demanding, but that’s where we thrive as builders.” What is your day-to-day life like at Dowbuilt? “Today, one of the best parts of my job is mentoring younger members in my division. I work with our estimating, field, project management, safety, and scheduling teams, guiding them on proactive planning, risk mitigation, course correction, and high-quality craft delivery. This commitment to developing the next generation of builders is a key part of my role and one that I find incredibly fulfilling.” Kajsa was among the first women on the build side of our business. She inspires us all with her endless talent (she’s also an incredible skier and pianist), and many women at Dowbuilt still remark, “I want to be like Kajsa when I grow up!” Thank you for 15 incredible years, Kajsa! #dowbuilt #dowbuilt_people #dowbuilt_careers #dowbuilt_culture #WIC #dowbuilt_wic #construction #constructioncareers #womeninconstruction
