🌱🚀 Education 3.0: Embracing the Grassroots Revolution Colegio Ikigai 🌱 In my journey, I've explored countless tech initiatives for schools. Some brought success, others hurdles for both staff and students. Yet, a recurring theme was top-down tech imposition, often data-focused, pitched as time-savers. I've made that case myself in few schools as the leader of the project! But today, we're witnessing a new wave of tools, saving, while delivering personalized learning for all and blowing away all the competition. 🌱🚀 Fascinatingly, the most innovative solutions I've found are often grassroots, crafted by working teachers spotting small gaps or chances to enrich their students' journey. These homegrown efforts hold the most promise for schools aiming to make a significant impact next year. Among them, the EDUmetaverse by Andrew Wright, Phillip Alcock's ingenious AI x PBL tutoring company, and Melissa McBride 🚀's 🚀VR High School at Sophia High School stand out head and shoulders above the rest. 🌱🚀 And of course Colegio Ikigai - Or least I like to think so! I am looking forward to seeing Salim Ucan, Ph.D. Global Town School and X-School this year and now School of Humanity and Claire Evans this next year and seeing how challenge the status quo. I wish all these pioneers, the best of luck, I know they will be successful. Why is this happening? While it opens doors to knowledge, we must also question how it may perpetuate existing power structures and dominant cultural narratives. Does the content and design of EdTech platforms reflect a diverse range of voices and perspectives? Or do they inadvertently reinforce biases and inequalities? 🌐📈 🌍 EdTech's democratization of knowledge has the potential to connect individuals from different backgrounds and cultures. However, we must be mindful of how these interactions are shaped and moderated. A part of NORRAG's #digitalisation of #education blog series, this blogpost is the first in a two blogpost mini-series on #EdTech summits. Some important points of reflection, namely highlighting the necessary (and urgent) work that remains in bridging and ensuring that diverse educational voices (teachers, parents, students, school leaders), needs, and societal values are central to and drive edtech development processes. "The summit provided an excellent opportunity to gain insights into the edtech sector and to understand how education is conceptualised by tech providers and investors, and several points of concern surfaced. - FIRST, there was an underrepresentation, if not absence, of teachers, students, and parents in the panels. If this reflects a typical edtech development process, it raises concerns about the implications when discussions and decisions mainly involve edtech businesses and investors determining what kind of products receive funding and come to fruition. SECONDLY, Edtech tools and services may not be originally designed for education but rather developed for businesses unrelated to education and then later adapted for educational purposes as part of the companies’ expansion strategies. There is the risk that schools need to adapt to the market logic that is inherent to the designs of these tech products. LASTLY, investors’ top-down, quantifying approach to conceptualise education, assigning numerical values to various educational aspects and treating education primarily as a market runs the danger of prioritising the monetary value of education, at the cost of education as a public good..." https://lnkd.in/eMHHPNey HT Wayne Holmes
