Following a successful week at Cannes, Goals House returned to our home base for a busy London Climate Action Week programme! To kickstart the week, Goals House and Climate Fresk hosted an interactive climate workshop. Attendees from various sectors turned climate science into a team game, and participants had the opportunity to work together to connect the causes and effects of the climate crisis. This empowering workshop, based on the IPCC reports, built participants’ knowledge of climate science and highlighted solutions to existing problems we face. Our opening reception was hosted by Ellen Jackowski, Chief Sustainability Officer, Mastercard, and Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan and Co-Chair of C40 Cities. The event, which focused on urban mobility and transitioning to more sustainable cities, also featured speakers Chapin Flynn, Senior Vice President, Transit & Urban Mobility, Mastercard; and Selwin Hart, Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Climate and Just Transitions and Assistant Secretary-General of the Climate Action, United Nations, and performances by spoken-word artist, poet, rapped and podcast host, George The Poet Limited, and climate campaigner & Grammy-nominated DJ Jayda G. Selwin Hart and Sadiq Khan stressed the importance of cities working together on a global scale, and the urgency we face in addressing the climate crisis. As Sadiq Khan stated, “1.5 degrees isn’t a goal, it’s not a target, it’s a physical limit. We are hanging by the barest of threads for staying within that limit.” While speakers all stressed the critical need for immediate action, there was also a sense of optimism in the room with committed stakeholders from various sectors all gathered together to work towards common goals. The Earthshot Prize then closed off the evening by hosting a dinner to kick off their London Fellowship Week. For the first time, the 2023 Earthshot Prize finalists and winners are in London for London Climate Action Week, where they are experiencing a week packed with events and networking opportunities that can help them scale their businesses. At the dinner, guests toasted the family they have found within The Earthshot Prize and spoke to supporting each other’s success and growth, serving as a reminder for the value of partnership in fostering transformative change. Stay tuned for more from our packed week of programming! #SDGs #LCAW #sustainabledevelopment #Goal17
