Our latest paper with Timothy Callaghan Kirby Goidel Julia Scobee Abigail Spiegelman, MPS David Washburn, ScD, SM, has been published in Social Science and Medicine (impact factor: 5.4). This is a first-of-its-kind study to explore the strategies primary care physicians use to address patient #COVID19 #vaccinehesitancy. Our research reveals that PCPs adopt a diverse array of strategies, tailoring their messages to address the drivers of hesitancy. However, some PCPs resort to harsh language while some report a lack of intention to address VH. Our study underscores the urgency of training physicians to engage in constructive vaccine-related discussions, and emphasize the vital role they play in building trust and fostering vaccination uptake. https://lnkd.in/ety3fdgA

New study finds rare COVID-19 vaccine side effects - Two new, but exceptionally rare COVID-19 vaccine side effects, have been found in the largest vaccine safety study ever recorded. Researchers found an uncommon link between recipients of the vaccine and a neurological disorder caused by swelling in the brain and spinal cord. Still, researchers say the benefits of receiving a COVID-19 vaccine far outweigh the risks. Our researchers tested whether communication training for healthcare providers can increase human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine initiation at seven community health clinics. Key findings from this study:   ·Participation in communication training varied by provider type, with the highest among nurses (62%). ·Provider communication training had minimal effect on HPV vaccine initiation overall, but patients aged 9 – 17 years experienced a small increase. ·Strategies are needed to increase HPV vaccine initiation without increasing provider workload.   This study was led by Rachel Meadows in collaboration with colleagues from UNT Health Science Center.
