Jamie Credland’s Post

I'm getting ready for a final, post-Cannes panel tomorrow (register here: https://lnkd.in/ev9Z8Vea). So while I try to gather my thoughts and sum up the festival, my biggest takeout is that the news industry is on the agenda in a way it has not been in years. - The The Wall Street Journal hosted a panel featuring featuring Vanessa Otero of Ad Fontes Media, Jeff Green of The Trade Desk and Almar Latour, Publisher of WSJ, who all spoke with passion and precision on the scale of the problems. - The Future of News research session on Stagwell beach had 3 WMG CEOs sharing the stage to discuss the research. Mark Penn managed to get Mark Thompson of CNN, Barbara Peng of Business Insider and Meredith Kopit Levien of The New York Times together to highlight the need for collaboration across the industry to demonstrate the value of news environments. Really powerful session - Our own World Media Group event attracted a big crowd on Wednesday, and reminded people of the economic and political realities beyond the beach. - More technical sessions from Dianomi and SeenThis demonstrated the revenue opportunities out there for premium publishers, if they choose to go after them. - Jeremy Kahn of Fortune still speaks more sense on all things AI than a hundred ad execs combined. - Randomly bumping into the legendary Rob Mayhew on the croisette in the middle of the night and agreeing that 2am is too late to listen to Topshop DJs... The other big trends have been covered elsewhere - the unstoppable rise of retail media, the OTT streamers coming for your ad dollars, the disappearance of the metaverse... And I was thrilled to see a more diverse and inclusive event than ever (thank you Conscious Advertising Network, Brixton Finishing School and many others), yet simultaneously disappointed to see the entire industry forget what Elon Musk is all about. As always, loved the serendipitous meetings with old friends (Sarah-Jane Lindsay, Alexandra Delamain, Emma Winchurch-Beale, Arif Durrani, Michael Albert Brown, Ravi Sunnak) And the chance to make some new ones, outside of the Zoom call environment: ✨Nafissa Norris (née Jeetoo), Michele Reale, Diana Florescu, Nadine Heggie, Ken Johnston Thanks to everyone who made it such a memorable week, and after tomorrow's event I promise I'll keep quiet about it for a while! #canneslions2024 #journalism #media
