Today, we celebrate a Black History Moment by honoring the legacy of Dr. Autherine Lucy Foster, the first African-American student to attend The University of Alabama. Her commitment to education and advancing opportunities for people of color is truly inspiring.
Named after Dr. Foster, Lucy's Legacy is a living-learning community that celebrates the experiences of women of color. It's heartening to see the mentoring and fellowship that young women of color have shown each other through this program. We are proud of all the women who have been a part of Lucy's Legacy, and we are especially proud of our daughter, the last speaker in this inspiring clip.
Kudos to The University of Alabama for embracing and acknowledging its history, while also moving forward in an era where racism still persists. We hope that Dr. Foster's story serves as a reminder to step out on faith and to work towards a more equitable future for all.
