We've seen a huge volume of change across the financial services sector in recent years, and the importance of clear, strategic communications cannot be overstated. Yet one thing that has not been widely adopted across the sector is the communications function having a seat at the boardroom table. For me, this seems like an oversight and a missed opportunity for those organisations looking to scale in the current economic climate. Scroll through my reasons below, but the bottom line is that incorporating communications into the boardroom brings a strategic perspective that aligns all aspects of the business towards common goals which will help build growth and resilience. What do you think? Do you agree that communications should have a seat at the table? I'd love to hear your insights. #Communications #Boardroom #FinancialServices #Leadership #StrategicCommunication

It’s not enough to set effective and ambitious aspirations for the transformation. People need to understand what these goals mean for their day-to-day jobs and what they will be expected to do differently. The most successful organizations are more likely to involve employees and engage them in face-to-face communication: specifically, using line-manager briefings, leadership town halls, and a cascade of information throughout the business. As Communications & Marketing leaders, how often is our craft misunderstood or undervalued? 🔹 “I’ll have a video campaign, media release, and a side of sponsorship, please.” 🔹 “Can you create a campaign with massive reach with zero spend?” 🔹 “We need this entire communication plan ready by tomorrow morning.” These scenarios are all too common. We often start in tactical roles and are treated like order-takers. But on the journey to be partners at the senior leadership table, we need more than craft mastery; we also need leadership skills. 🌟 The Future-Ready Leaders Collective (FRLC) bridges this gap, helping you: ✅ Build confidence in leading now and into the future. ✅ Drive better business results. ✅ Expand leadership capacity and have a greater impact. ✅ Build high-performing teams. ✅ Navigate ambiguity and change. Past FRLC participant, Libby Brown, Senior Director of Communications & Engagement, says, “As a senior communicator, you’ve got the craft nailed by now, but if you want to dial into what kind of leader you are and want to be, this program is the place to tap into that.” Ready to make the leap? Transformation means major CHANGE. Let's just call it what it is. Instinctively our brains interpret change as a threat. This is why so many people in an organization, when presented with a new initiative or idea—even a good one, with tons of benefits—will resist it, and why so many transformations fail. Watch Mary Mesaglio, Distinguished VP Analyst at Gartner, as she speaks to how to make your transformation message stick. In a recent fireside chat with CEOs and Communication Heads, our dialogue, inspired by Sally Susman ´s acclaimed book „Breaking Through“, delved into the contemporary challenges of CEO communication. An unanimous agreement emerged regarding the escalating pressure and stakes faced by leaders across organizations. We stressed the imperative for leaders to muster the courage to be candid and authentic in their communications, fostering effective connections with diverse stakeholders—shareholders, employees, customers, suppliers, academia, society. Our conversation further illuminated the strategic necessity of effective communication during special periods of organizational transformations and crises. We deliberated on the pivotal questions: Who should communicate? What to communicate? When to communicate it? And, importantly, how to communicate it effectively? We hope to continue this dialogue with Sally in our upcoming Inspiration Forum in March 2024 in New York. #ceo #leadership #communication #executive #stakeholders

Communication, marketing, and public relations and government affairs strategist with 13+ years experience.
Are you tired of hearing buzzwords like #innovation and #changeleadership without seeing any real action? Me too. In my experience, many companies talk the talk but don't walk the walk. One previous employer even paid for a strategic thinking course for employees, only to shut down any positive changes they tried to implement. This resulted in lost credibility and plummeting morale. Another organization I worked for had a visionary leader who involved employees in the change process and cheered them on throughout. This kind of forward thinking paid off and the organization is now a leader in their industry. Change is inevitable and we must adapt to succeed. Do you have any similar experiences? Share your thoughts! #Change #Leadership #marketing #publicrelations #government #communication

Specialist in Communications for foreign asset managers in the German speaking market
1moYou’re absolutely right, Julian Rea. We all know examples where communications in a critical situation for a company has been left to either the legal department (no offence, they need to be included, of course) or to the big ego of a complacent CEO. Communications need to be on the boardroom table not on the lower-level “Katzentisch” (sorry, it’s just a too nice German word not to use it here) 😉
