In our recent volunteer training session, we took a deeper dive into Bloom's Taxonomy of Learning, going beyond merely unveiling the secret sauce to asking impactful questions during mentorship to practice how to apply it in real situations. The focus was on empowering volunteers to guide mentees more effectively. We explored different levels of questioning, with the goal of strategically guiding mentees toward mastering knowledge and achieving higher-order thinking. Obsessed with programme design Mentor Monday 24/52 📆 Obsessed about the details, and the impact my programme design would have But I was actually blinkered by this approach. As much as I thought my focus on programme design detail was performance orientated, it was actually anti performance in mind. In every moment I had focused attention on exercises sets and reps, I failed to: 😫consider the sport 😫consider the goals of the head coach 😫consider the needs of the athlete (their subjective needs) 😫consider the barriers to getting towards the required goal 😫consider the longer term plans As such, the programme largely failed, or I quickly needed to change things in the moment. I now look at any intervention with these key questions: 1️⃣ Start with the end in mind - What is success or the goal? Include everyone in this to gain perspective 2️⃣ Understand how big the gap is to get there (measure) 3️⃣ Identify critical disablers to this end goal (so physically, what’s limiting performance?) 4️⃣ Determine appropriate ST and LT term actions to close the GAP Follow these steps to gain clarity We cover this principle based approach in all group mentorship’s. 👉How do you begin your school year? Do you have any rituals that help you start well? For some of us, New Year is the beginning of the Year, but in the teacher's world it’s the beginning of the new school year. 💡We can start this year with amazing plans or create a list of goals that we want to achieve. But today I would like to focus on something else. What would you say about starting every new school year or semester with reflection on how we can support ourselves during this time? What do I mean by that? I mean how we can help ourselves to keep the energy up 🔥& to not forget about taking care of ourselves. 🛬The airplane procedure is to put on your mask first before helping your child. I really think it can be applied to teacher & students situations. When you all get tired during the school year, remember that you as a teacher need to take care of yourself first before you will be able to help your students. You cannot help your students when your tank is empty. Here you can find my ideas that can help you: 🎈Plan your “relax time”. List all the activities that can help you relax & slow down. - I know it can sound like something obvious, but do we really do that? Sometimes we are too busy with doing our work, preparing classes & somehow we forget to stop & relax. 🎈Find the support group. - It can be a group of your friends or a group of other teachers like Let’s Scrum it community. What matters is finding the right people who you can reach out to whenever you need to talk. 🎈Lower your expectations - I know, I know - everyone already has high expectations from yourself. That’s why I think that adding more pressure to that long list will not help you. It doesn’t mean not being committed. Focus on what you can achieve, but do not overload yourself. Again - your tank can get empty quickly if you do. 🎈Everyday find one situation that you appreciate. - It can be something that you’ve done or nice words from your students or parents. Try to focus on positive things every day. What would you add to this list?🕵️♀️ #education #teaching #students #support #teacherslife #teacher #teachers #letsscrumit #eduscrum #newyear
