In retirement, it is important to have a sense of purpose. This can be achieved through various activities such as pursuing further education at a university, engaging in voluntary work, undertaking long-term projects on your property, becoming involved in a community, or simply enjoying more quality time with friends and family. Some individuals may even choose to return to work on a part-time basis. Regardless of the chosen path, it is crucial to plan how you will spend your time in retirement in order to maintain a sense of purpose, find enjoyment, and experience fulfilment. By doing so, you can also alleviate the stress that often accompanies a full-time working life. At Adcock Financial, we have encountered numerous clients in January who exemplify these various approaches to retirement and are making the most of their newfound freedom after leaving full-time employment.

Career Path

A new trend - phased retirement. This is an interesting read because it highlights the abrupt shift from working full time to not at all (stopping 🛑 completely, to retire). 💡Keeping experienced employees, even on a limited schedule, can promote continuity and even mentoring opportunities. 💡 Allowing more seasoned employees to continue in their former full time roles, could alleviate extensive (costly) training if shadowing was permitted and encouraged. 💡 Certain companies and industries should see this as a huge cost saving method in that continuing to employee and retaining experienced employees, even on a consulting basis would be a win-win for the newer workers and buttress management. 💡Thoughts? 💡 I took a course at UCF with Dr. Brophy (Physiological Psychology- study of the brain) and his advice was to never retire… Dr. Brophy went even further, he advised that as we age we should challenge our brains constantly (learn an instrument, practice learning a new language, etc)… part of our final exam was to learn to juggle (in front of 200+ students, by the way) and he memorized all the students name (first & last).
