Today we announced a collaboration with National Cancer Institute (NCI) on the myeloMATCH trial to help advance research in precision oncology. This clinical trial will fast-track acute myeloid leukemia patient enrollment using genomic insights provided by our next-day, sequencing technology. I’m so proud of our company’s role in advancing cutting-edge research, which will ultimately lead to better outcomes for patients. It’s an exciting day for Thermo Fisher Scientific as we celebrate the completion of our acquisition of Olink – a leading provider of next-generation proteomics solutions. The addition of Olink expands our next-generation life sciences and mass spectrometry offerings for research and precision medicine, and together we will further strengthen our capabilities to accelerate discovery and scientific breakthroughs. Public Service Star-Distinguished Friend of Singapore Thank you to our team in Singapore and our colleagues all over the world for the work you do every day! Because of your efforts, Thermo Fisher has been recognized with a Public Service Star-Distinguished Friend of Singapore award, acknowledging our company’s contributions to Singapore’s economic growth and development. Presented by Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore, and the Singapore Economic Development Board, the award also recognizes Thermo Fisher’s role in helping the country fight the pandemic and in advancing Singapore’s precision medicine goals and strengthening its healthcare ecosystem. Thermo Fisher has been in Singapore for more than 50 years, and we are very proud of the impact we have as we help the country and our customers diagnose and treat disease, ensure clean air and water and help keep people safe. I look forward to what we will accomplish together as we continue to invest in our capabilities and enable our customers to address the world’s greatest challenges.

The promise of gene therapies It was exciting to see the news recently that the first patient – a 12-year-old boy – has begun a new gene therapy for sickle cell disease. It’s one of two recent gene therapies for this disease approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Both treatments target the underlying cause of the disease – a faulty gene that the patient has inherited from their parents. Sickle cell disease is a debilitating and life-threatening blood disorder that affects about 100,000 people in the United States, alone, and these treatments have the potential to transform patients’ lives. Since 1990, when the first gene therapy was approved for a severe immunodeficiency disease, others have emerged for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, hemophilia and a retinal disorder that causes blindness, among other hereditary diseases. I’m excited to see the pace of discovery is accelerating. While most of the progress has been in the realm of rare inherited diseases, gene therapy techniques – like CRSPR gene editing and lentiviral vector delivery – are being applied to development of potential treatments for various forms of cancer and other more common illnesses – even ways to address aging. It’s an incredibly promising frontier. There are still major hurdles to overcome as more gene therapies emerge: treatment can be long and grueling for the patient, the therapies are costly and availability can be limited. That’s why Thermo Fisher is committed to doing everything we can to help our customers bring new treatments to market faster and with lower cost, so we can improve lives worldwide. Our enabling technologies, services and expertise advance research, cutting-edge drug discovery and development, and our capabilities to support clinical trials and manufacture new therapies at scale help our customers accelerate development and commercialization. We continue to invest in these capabilities so we can help our customers move their breakthroughs forward and reach patients faster. A terrific example is our preeclampsia assays, the first blood-based biomarker tests cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the risk assessment and clinical management of #preeclampsia. I’m proud that this innovation has earned us a place on Fast Company’s list of Most Innovative Companies in 2024, and I’m even more gratified knowing the difference our tests are making in clinical care for pregnant women and their babies. Like many of you, I am shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic events and loss of life in Israel and the region. I continue to watch the ongoing situation with great concern.    First and foremost, our top priority is the safety of our colleagues and we are monitoring their circumstances and providing support for their urgent needs.    Sadly, our world remains torn by violence. We join the international community in supporting Israel and in hoping for a swift end to this crisis and for peace everywhere. 

Last week during our annual Investor Day, I was proud to share an update on the many ways our company is enabling scientific advancements, including propelling the golden age of biology and precision medicine, and enabling advanced materials to power the digital economy and the clean energy transition. Thank you to our 125,000 colleagues around the world who make all of this possible through their passion for our Mission.
