In the rapidly evolving world of technology, #diversity is not just a buzzword; for me it is a crucial element for driving #innovation and achieving success. Women in #Engineering contribute to this diversity, fostering a culture where innovative ideas can thrive.  Research has shown that teams with gender diversity make more accurate and effective decisions as they consider a wider range of factors and viewpoints. This leads to better outcomes and more successful projects. To be successful we have to further break barriers to encourage more women to enter and succeed in engineering. This #INWED, we're proud to introduce Vicky Caws, Head of Projects at Invar Group: "From a young age, I was always interested in how things work and became the go-to person for IT challenges at home. Innovation and new technology have always intrigued me, driving my desire to find new and improved ways of doing things. To pursue my interest in IT and logistics, I completed an industrial placement year as part of my degree with GIST; before joining an IT graduate scheme with Kuehne + Nagel (K&N). I discovered a passion for working with automation and robotics systems, which led me to Invar. Over the past five years, I have advanced in project management of warehouse systems, including automation projects. Currently, I lead a team of project managers and project engineers, overseeing the implementation of these systems and innovations. My journey has been far from linear. As a woman in a predominantly male field, I frequently encountered challenges, such as being the only woman in the room or being perceived as too 'emotional' or 'sensitive'. These obstacles were very daunting early in my career and still occur, they have however, ultimately helped me to become more resilient. Support from mentors, an open-minded approach, combined with a drive to continuously innovate and improve, have been crucial in overcoming these barriers. Events such as Women in Engineering are essential for highlighting the industry's significance and the importance of diverse perspectives. If I was to say anything to encourage the next generation it would to be stay true to yourself, it’s a great industry and more women should be encouraged to join it." 🤝Collaboration with international students🤝   We're excited to embark on this journey of partnership with students and educational institutions. Intercable Automotive Solutions collaborated with three students from Berufskolleg Tecklenburger Land (Germany). David, Joshua and Simon worked on a project together with the Advanced Quality Engineering (AQE) department - within the Laboratory they designed and created a Slow-Motion-Bending Machine for lifetime testing of cables lug connections. The team continues to grow, and today we are thrilled to introduce Shriram Shrungarkar, our new working student! He brings a fresh perspective and a strong eagerness to learn, which will undoubtedly contribute to our ongoing projects and innovation. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐣𝐨𝐛 𝐚𝐭 𝐄𝐑𝐂? I have recently joined #ERC as a Working Student within the Aircraft Conceptual Design team, working closely with my supervisor, Artur Usbek. My primary responsibilities include developing supporting software tools for the aircraft design optimization loop. In addition, I am implementing handbook methods to complement some of the existing complex models required to size the aircraft. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 / 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐫𝐞/ 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦)? Entering the #aerospace industry for the first time during my studies has been an exciting experience. The challenge lies in getting accustomed to company practices while delivering with precision in a fast-paced start-up. Moreover, conceptual design is the starting point of any new aircraft project, requiring a solid understanding and feel for the aircraft as a whole. To tackle these challenges, it is crucial to seek support and positively embrace all feedback and new insights from my experienced colleagues. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐑𝐂? Currently, I’m pursuing a bachelor’s degree in aerospace at the Technical University of Munich. At university, I have been actively involved in #eVTOL student clubs, taking advanced courses, and participating in hackathons. My passion for #aviation extends beyond university studies, and I take every opportunity—from internships to hobbies—to constantly expand my horizons in the aerospace domain. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮? Simply stated, I get to learn continuously and have the opportunity to witness the vision of sustainable air mobility being crafted into reality. Perfect Mix and Match at MAHLE During Easter break, we welcomed 8 young female minds to our Stuttgart headquarters to explore the wonderful world of technology in a series of hands-on experiences designed to spark curiosity. Our gate into the world of tech was the start-up MAHLE chargeBIG, pioneering innovative and affordable charging infrastructure. Here, the girls enjoyed practical learning, soldering and wiring, gaining first insights into the megatrend electrification. How to design, produce, and analyze different metals were the key takeaways in our metallography laboratory. Participants sawed and examined metal sections under the microscope, getting a first glimpse of materials that make up the technologies of tomorrow. 🎉 End of Internship Reflections 🎉 As I wrap up my incredible journey at IonKraft, I can’t help but feel a mixture of emotions: gratitude, joy, and a touch of sadness. It’s been a transformative year filled with learning, growth, and unforgettable experiences with the most wonderful team. 🌟 Key takeaways from the Internship: During my internship, I delved deep into understanding the complexities of the plastic packaging industry, particularly focusing on the evolving landscape shaped by new regulations and sustainability goals in the EU. The industry is at a critical juncture, with mounting pressures to adopt sustainable practices and reduce plastic waste. I gained invaluable insights into the challenges and opportunities inherent in transitioning to a circular economy model for plastic packaging.  This exploration was instrumental in shaping my master's thesis, titled "Investigating the Circular Economy and Plastic Packaging Landscape: Developing a Conceptual Framework for a Circular Plastic Packaging Value Chain." The theis underscores the critical role of interdisciplinary collaboration among value chain actors in implementing guidelines to ensure a successful transition to a circular plastic economy. The proposed framework serves as a pivotal guide for policymakers, businesses, and consumers, enriching the existing body of knowledge on the circular economy and the plastic packaging industry. 💼 Projects I worked on: I had the opportunity to contribute to the procurement management process and CRM process and building communication & promotion strategy. The absolute highlight would be building an impactful pitch deck and conducting market research on the plastic packaging industry. 🔜 Gratitude and Next Steps: I’m immensely grateful to Benedikt Heuer for their guidance, support, and invaluable feedback.
