Stay Informed with Our Newsletter & Learning Series 🤓📰 "Why Your Commercial Flat Roof Is Leaking (and How to Fix It)" The term “flat roof” is somewhat of a misnomer, as what many presume to be perfectly level surfaces are, in reality, slightly sloped to facilitate water drainage. This subtle architectural nuance is crucial in preventing water accumulation, which can lead to leaks and structural damage over time. Flat roofs are a common sight atop commercial buildings, prized for their cost-effectiveness, space efficiency for HVAC installations, and accessibility for maintenance. Let’s explore the most common culprits behind commercial roof leaks, laying the groundwork for effective prevention and repair strategies. CHBA VI is proud to be partnering with Natural Resources Canada, RDH Building Science and FireSmart BC to bring this course to both Victoria and Nanaimo. This educational event will focus on construction-based solutions for building fire-resilient homes in B.C.. Experts from RDH Building Sciences and FireSmartBC will discuss how to incorporate non-combustible building materials, envelope details, fire-rated wall assemblies, and exterior fire prevention measures into Part 9 housing construction. There will be 3 technical based presentation: 1) envelope details and materials. Namely, points of entry in the home where embers can penetrate the structure, and the substitution of combustible building materials for non-combustible ones. 2) constructing a 1hr fire-rated wall assembly. Looking at the different solutions and materials that can be incorporated into a wall assembly to achieve a 1-hr fire-rating. 3) Measures that can be taken outside of the house to improve fire-resiliency. A series of infographics and guides, created by NRCan, will be leveraged throughout the event. Participants will receive access to these resources to support the implementation of fire-resiliency measures. To register: https://lnkd.in/gt_jnPkZ

Free CPD webinar 22 January 2024, 12pm - 1pm RIBA CPD Hour How to achieve maximum fire safety for a complete external wall system Free to attend as part of the RIBA CPD Hour, this webinar provides comprehensive guidance on fire safety regulations, testing and certification in the design of external walls and the use of breather membranes as a protective solution for the building envelope. Presented by Allan Hurdle, Technical Consultant at Stamisol UK, the CPD also explains how UV resistance, water tightness and breathability form an important combination of attributes to extend the lifetime of a facade system. The CPD is recommended for organisations and individuals operating under the more robust oversight of the new Building Safety Regulator. It’s essential viewing for anyone involved in the design, construction, renovation and management of high-rise and higher-risk buildings. ITP are the UK suppliers of Stamisol Safe One, an innovative breather membrane which offers a Euroclass A2 fire safety rating and a W1 rating for water tightness. Safe One won Product of the Year in the Façade 2022 Design and Engineering Awards.
