Rethinking Exercise: [the concept of exercise as we know it today differs from what our bodies were actually designed for.] We weren't designed for voluntary exercise in the gym. Our bodies crave the moderate exertion we evolved for through daily activities like hunting and gathering. We need to move throughout the day, not just dedicate specific times for intense workouts. The book "Exercised: The Science of Physical Activity, Rest and Health," by Dr. Lieberman, challenges popular beliefs about exercise, like the need for long-distance running or spending hours lifting weights. These activities may not reflect the types of physical exertion our bodies adapted to over millennia. While excessive sitting is unhealthy, our bodies are built for some rest and short bursts of activity also. Our bodies are actually designed for running, but proper form and avoiding overtraining are crucial. Listen to your body - don't push yourself too hard. Mix up your workouts with different types of movement for a well-rounded approach. Rest and recovery are vital for optimal health. The book argues for a more natural approach to movement, emphasizing the importance of integrating activity into our daily lives for better health and well-being.
