Thanks Sarah Redpath for bringing Joe to my Meet the Artist event last week! Joe DeRusso III, I'm so honored you started your art collecting journey with one of my works. And how great to be able to deliver this gallery-wrapped print in person last night. I started collecting art from other artists a couple of years ago. It is so rewarding to know the person that made your art - their style and what inspires them. Part of what Joe liked is the story behind the painting. So here it is: This is the bottom section of a larger work titled, As Above, So Below. 🐠 🌴 In this section, the schools of fish and sections of the palm tree symbolize our thoughts, feelings, and gut instincts. They are having a meeting to consider what they really want before they break the surface. 🌅 I think of the underwater sun (refracted through the surface) as our higher purpose - what we were placed on this earth to do, accomplish, create. That is the focal point. It feeds and energizes us - even if only subliminally at first. The more we tune in, the clearer it will become! I have #ADHD, which means I have a strong action bias and tendency towards impulsivity. Using my mind's executive function BEFORE I jump, helps me focus on the goal and visualize success, thereby increasing the probability of success. Visualizing success allows me to jump higher with more precision. It also helps me identify and label my feelings, so I'm less reactive. Ultimately, we make our own reality and Fortune favors the bold. #choosepositivity #makeyourownluck #assumepositiveintent As Above, So Below also has some other historical interpretations that I found thought-provoking. According to Wiki: https://lnkd.in/ebSD-eVg 1) "the effects of celestial mechanics upon terrestrial events. This would include the effects of the Sun upon the change of seasons, or those of the Moon upon the tides, but also more elaborate astrological effects." 2) "the structural similarities (or 'correspondences') between the macrocosm (from Greek makros kosmos, "the great world"; the universe as a whole, understood as a great living being) and the microcosm (from Greek mikros kosmos, "the small world"; the human being, understood as a miniature universe) 3) associated with the philosophical mentalism (the primacy of mind as the active cause of things) And studies from Psychology Today re: luck and opportunity: “Researchers at the University of Toronto recently demonstrated the benefit of seeing the world through rose-colored glasses. They found that people in good moods actually take in more visual information, while those in bad moods don’t see as much around them.” “Those who call themselves lucky score higher on the personality factor of extraversion. That means that they are more likely to have a fortuitous encounter because they meet lots of new people and keep in touch with a large group of friends and acquaintances."
And look who has started his Art Journey! Joe DeRusso III purchased a painting from 👑 THERESA RAINES 💛 and received it at the Fine Arts League Of Cary #Gala last night. Happy faces all around. Watch out, Joe. Art is addictive! #artcollectors #buylocalart #localartists #artevent #fundraiser

The British Museum should be ashamed of themselves. Is there no #security there at all? "Of the 2,000 pieces, nearly 500 were damaged, but not stolen. Of these, 350 had elements stolen, particularly #gold mounts. This gold has almost certainly been melted down for scrap. A further 140 were damaged by tool marks in unsuccessful attempts to remove valuable parts. This leaves 1,500 complete items which were #stolen. Of these, 351 have now been recovered from #Denmark, 290 via the #Thorvaldsens #Museum and 61 direct from #Gradel. The BM has also recovered six items from other sources. In addition, the location of a further 300 #objects has been established." #britishmuseum #artist #creativity #arthistory #heritagetreasures #heritagebuilding #heritagetourism #heritageconservation #culture #culturalheritage #societyandculture #england #restitution #restitutionlaw #artcollector #contemporaryart #theft #criminallaw #ruleoflaw #policeinvestigation #localpeople #criminaljusticesystem #lawyers #lawyerlife #law #legaladvice #donations #fundraisingcampaign #securitysystem #alarm #accountability #integrity #integritymatters #standards #standardsmatter #change #customerexperience https://lnkd.in/dNB-e6aX

"In the early morning hours of a late-winter day in 1990, two men dressed as police officers got into an art museum. They tied up the two guards on duty in the basement and proceeded to grab 13 pieces of art, most notably two Rembrandts and a Vermeer. They left with their loot and were never caught. The value of the stolen art was estimated at $200 million dollars. At the time it was the biggest art heist ever. Despite intense investigations, the case remains unsolved. This isn't the plot of a movie. It's something that happened at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. If you haven't been to this museum, there are two things you should know: 1. You should visit, any chance you get. It's one of the coolest places in Boston. 2. It's different from most museums. More crowded with art from everywhere and from across the centuries. It's almost chaotic, compared to most museums, and that's because Isabella Stewart Gardner, a wealthy art collector, made it that way. On her death she created a $1 million endowment and stipulated that the collection be permanently exhibited without any kind of change. Gardner's stipulation means that when those pieces of art were stolen, museum officials couldn't just rearrange the collection to fill the empty spots. They had to leave empty frames where the pieces had been. It's probably not surprising that those empty frames are the most popular and sought-out things exhibited in the entire amazing museum. There's a reason visitors to the museum love the empty picture frames. They tell a story. A dramatic story that takes no background knowledge to understand and appreciate. I'm telling you this for a reason that impacts fundraisers in a big way: People -- all people, including your donors -- love stories. But they don't love all stories equally. And that means they they may not care about the story you want them to love. They prefer to look at the empty picture frames," Jeff Brooks wrote in his blog. Have you had similar frustrations with your donors? Are you left wondering why are your donors interested in the wrong things? Jeff Brooks addresses these questions and frustrations in his blog: #nonprofit #philanthrophy #notforprofit #nonprofitorganization #nonprofitleadership #fundraising

Embodiment Engineer || I help leaders, trainers and facilitators work their magic by leveraging our embodied intelligence || Ph.D. in Physics
Follow your intuition, exercise your imagination… … during the World Wide Wander on September 29th. From 13:00-15:00 CEST I’ll guide you on a 2 hour Street Wisdom walk and group sharing at the vibrant NDSM wharf area in Amsterdam (indoor and/or outdoor, depending on the weather). Registration link for this free #walkshop in the comments 👇. When I followed my intuition on one of my recent walks I ran into a #PerfectStranger who embodied many #wanderful life lessons. Sculptor Nirman Cain was chiseling away, while telling me to really listen to what the rock wants. To look at it from different angles, zooming in and zooming out, sensing where it wants to flow and what wants to emerge. 🪨 Everything is there already, the only thing he does is helping it unfold. 🪨 Do you see any similarities to life? Where does it want to flow for you? And how can you follow this current instead of fighting it? Come and find out with me on September 29th! PS. No fees, a donation for a ☕️ or 🥪 is welcome. #Intuition #Imagination #Curiosity #EmbodiedIntelligence #Serendipity #AnswersAreEverywhere #StreetWisdom This picture and more beautiful rock art can be found at Nirman Cain’s website, link in the comments.

Did you know that art is a great way to get involved in your local community? Getting involved with the arts at a community level can help to reduce feelings of isolation and anxiety, improving your overall mental health. Here are some of the ways that we think you could get involved with your community through art: 🖌️ Look for classes and workshops offered through community centers, local colleges, art stores, or independent artists. Try a class in painting, pottery, jewelry-making, photography, etc. to explore your creative side. 🖌️ Volunteer at an arts organisation like an art center, theater company, youth project, or museum. 🖌️ Support public arts programs and events in your town like art festivals, mural projects, and outdoor sculpture exhibits. 🖌️ Follow local artists and arts venues on social media to stay in the loop on shows, events, and opportunities. 🖌️ Help fund community art projects through crowdfunding campaigns and donations when possible. Do you have any other ways that you can help to create a sense of community through art?
