Asking fundamental questions without making any assumptions is the key to making sound decisions. However, it's easier said than done because decision-makers, who are mostly experts in their fields, are thoroughly conditioned by their experiences. Here is a prime example of how failing to challenge basic assumptions can be extremely costly. In 2014 French rail operator SNCF neglected an essential piece of data during its €15 billion purchase of 1,860 regional trains. No one thought to ask whether the platform measurements were universal. They weren’t. The trains proved too wide for 1,300 older stations—a mistake that cost €50 million to fix. This serves as a stark reminder that no matter how experienced we are, we must never skip the fundamental questions and assumptions. They are the cornerstone of avoiding costly mistakes. #DecisionMaking #CriticalThinking #Leadership #LessonsLearned #BusinessStrategy #ContinuousImprovement

A Look Back on "LTG Rail Forward" It's already been a week since our annual leadership event, "LTG Rail Forward," which focused on our most valuable partners: our customers. With this customer-centric approach, we explored various perspectives on efficiency, customer focus, and leadership. One particularly interesting discussion, in which I participated, centered around how our organizations adapt to change and how leaders navigate this process. From "When Will It End?" to Embracing Change Five years ago, when I joined LTG Cargo (it feels like a lifetime ago!) I was looking to join an organization where I can initiate change, organization which develops, where I can learn new things. But when I met teams here - there were frequent complaints about constant change, with the question lingering: "When will it all stop, and can we finally get back to normal?" Then came the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by the war in Ukraine, which significantly impacted our company's cargo flow. Additionally, implementing sanctions added another layer of complexity. Interestingly, the question of "getting back to normal" seems to have vanished. A Shift in Perspective So, what has changed? Did we simply accept that change is inevitable, or have we learned to thrive in a dynamic environment? I believe it's a combination of both. We've come to understand that change is a constant force, and we've also developed the ability to adapt and move forward in the face of these challenges. #change #customerfocus #LTGCargo P.S. Even when navigating the jungle of change, remember, it might just be a small forest to conquer in the end 😎

𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐬 - professions can become our comfort zones, industries become familiar spaces with known rules. Yet most of today’s innovations combine more than one discipline. We connect to someone or something that provides the missing part to our big idea or the capabilities we seek. After a few stunning days in the Netherlands, it’s time to expand our network once again. More airplanes, trains and automobiles. This time we’re in Denmark. Looking forward to spending time with family and friends here, as well. Ascent Growth Partners Pte. Alignment of the business leadership background with the core business is crucial, especially for CEOs. The recent Alaska Airlines door plug incident highlights quality control symptoms and associated issues within Boeing. These symptoms are caused by underlying priorities and cultural issues at the top of the organisation. Similar issues were seen with the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, where short-term shareholder demands led to long-term negative impacts. Therefore it is essential to have leaders with the right background to make informed decisions on every aspect of managing the business. Interestingly, there is a lack of representation of technology and other backgrounds in the top of the organization compared to finance and legal backgrounds. Let's ensure alignment with the core business and ESG principles to avoid negative impacts caused by short-term shareholder demands. #businessleadership #qualitycontrol #ESG

ARE CUSTOMERS ALWAYS RIGHT??😃 In today’s Customer-Centric Business World, it’s important to remember that while customers are Invaluable, “They’re not Always Right”. However, how we convey our messages matters or how we communicate to them sheds light on the subject matter. We ought to focus on listening to our customers, understanding their needs, personalizing their experiences with our products/services and providing honest expert guidance.😁💡 Let’s refrain from blindly adhering to this adage of “ Customers are Always Right” since it can lead to Unrealistic Expectations, EMPLOYEE BURNOUT, and compromised Integrity. It’s about striking a balance between valuing our customers and Empowering our Teams to do what’s right. 😉🌟 International Civil Aviation Organization Uganda Civil Aviation Authority Lufthansa Group Brussels Airlines #CustomerService Menzies Aviation BAINOMUGISHA KENNETH #Leadership “#DaretoUn-lead” a good read by my friend Céline Schillinger who shares about the Art of Relational Leadership in a Fragmented world. #BusinessEthics #CustomerExperience
