The Chemist works cross functionally making lab improvements and adjustments to proceduresClient DetailsOur Client has been in business since the 1930s, has extensive capabilities in rubber processing including molding, extruding, vulcanizing, grinding, slitting, laminating, and die cutting using the latest engineering and manufacturing processes, catering to Aerospace & Medical Device markets.DescriptionDevelopment of rubber compounds for a variety of markets and applicationsProjects relate to the generation or modification of formulations using compounding best practices, product specifications and may require the design and execution of experiments that use current instrumentation and techniques to modify, improve or develop company products.Projects will identify all aspects critical to quality for the market and customers, selecting raw materials and raw material suppliers, cost reduction by formula modification, developing new products, and issuing product performance specifications. This requires lab analysis and production trials, including the generation and maintenance of raw material purchase specifications for polymers and other raw materials and involves choosing raw materials that ensure the processing characteristics and physical performance properties at the highest quality and lowest cost possible.Document approved formulas, chemical equivalents for raw materials, etc.Establish test protocol requirements to ensure the long-term performance of both the rubber components and the finished field-installed systems.Determine predictive tests and working with Quality team to ensure that appropriate tests are used at appropriate frequencies, and that test data for component physical properties, aging and weathering resistance is reviewed routinely to ensure the continued product quality.Provide technical support to manufacturing. This will require an in-depth knowledge of rubber chemistry, compounding and the ability to search for root cause for production issues. A thorough understanding of elastomer interactions in formulation chemistry is required.Analysis of failures from failed rubber production batches and customer returns including troubleshooting of manufacturing processes and methodsAnalytical testing of rubber products and interpretation of test dataEvaluation of findings to develop new concepts, products, equipment, or processesCompletion of process and ISO standards documentationPreparation of technical reports for use by

ORCO Quality Control – Consistent Colorants and Chemicals Incoming raw materials are evaluated for strength, color value, solubility, pH, application characteristics, and other physical properties using the latest spectrophotometric and measurement instrumentation. Quality data, consisting of product strength, numerical color data (LABs), and the corresponding money value for each item, is recorded in an internal database for each batch of raw material. The purchasing department of processing materials has accurate data at its fingertips to make informed decisions when purchasing the raw materials needed by the production department. All standardized finished colorant and chemical batches are sampled back to the laboratory to be tested against established quality standards. Any batches that do not meet standard values are charged with adjustments and are only approved when all requirements for Delta LAB, solubility, and physical attributes are met. Certificates of Analysis(COAs) are prepared with test data and provided to the customer as required. All COAs are stored for future reference. Our broad range of equipment and experienced team of packaging technicians enables us to provide world-class technical support for the whole packaging selection and adoption process – from product development, processing and sealing through to supply chain trials and post-launch evaluation and troubleshooting. This photo shows one of our laboratory technicians checking the strength of one of the home compostable bags that we make. The tensile tester she is using ensures the film structure and seals will be robust enough to withstand the usage and handling required for a wide range of packaged goods.
