Publicists got shout-outs at the Oscars last night, and it was a moment. Take a bow, #PR!
Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Robert Downey Jr., who both won Oscars for supporting roles, saluted the importance of their publicists in the midst of their own limelight, spotlight, and footlights.
In that peak moment, some people don’t even remember to thank their spouses. The two actors at different career points -- Da’Vine Joy a new face and, Robert a Hollywood veteran -- agreed on the value of their publicists.
They know: Publicists are the ones who bring up your name when nobody else is talking about you, your company, or your talent. That is what I do for my clients.
Apparently, the Academy would prefer no insider business names get mentioned at the Oscars, and I agree the art of cinema should come first. But many industry names are dropped. And, in giving day-in and day-out support to a client, facts are facts. Publicists are part of a winning team and you can’t stop client gratitude.

➡ The Academy will be adding a new Oscar for casting. What do you think: Are behind-the-scenes skills like casting and PR important in the movie world?
