I've been on record before talking about the Population Mountains piece at pudding.cool (https://lnkd.in/eUG6jqjg) and how I think it's one of the best pure examples of a data visualisation I've ever seen. So, you can imagine my delight when I found a series of resources from Milos Popovic, PhD utilising the rayshader package in R and producing (in effect) the same thing. A fairly sizeable number of those implementations look at forest cover (or other natural world data), and I'd encourage people to take a look - but for my own part I pulled down population data from WorldPop (https://lnkd.in/esTvdh_M) and mimicked the population mountains I'd seen previously, but in a nice visual for Scotland. I'm no data visualisation expert, so really pleased with the results! 🤣 Worth checking out the references above for sure! #data #datavisualisation #dataviz #scotland #dataanalytics #datascience #r #dataisbeautiful #population

Users frustrated with seeing blank reports when they pick the wrong combination of slicers in #PowerBI? 😤 Very easy fix. This one goes in the category of “I’ve explained it so many times 🔁 I might as well write about it”. For example, if you don’t sell snowmobiles ❄☃ in your Florida 😎 store, then maybe snowmobiles shouldn’t be in the slicer when you are filtered to Florida. Slicers based upon multiple columns from the *same* table automatically cross-filter. But slicers based on columns in separate tables don’t filter unless there’s a relationship. 💑 In the example in the video, State Name is in the Geography 🌎 dimension and Product is in the Product 🛒 dimension. There’s no relationship between Geography and Product. Never fear. 😱 We can just use a visual-level filter. We just need a measure which will tell us which Products should be visible. Possibly we could create a fact table representing what products we stock in our stores and use that measure. But for simplicity, I’ll just use the Sales Amount measure. 👌🏽 Follow me 🔔 for more on data analytics. #BusinessIntelligence #DataVisualization #DataAnalytics
