An oldie but a goodie, and well worth revisiting. This man, Shlomo Rechnitz, sees 400 US troops in an airport, eating paper-bag meals. He intervenes and pays for each squaddie to have a meal of their choice from an airport resto, $50.00 a head. Then he stands in front of them and thanks them for protecting him and his family from evil. I have first hand experience of Jewish community generosity and kindness, often in the form of an onslaught of potato latkes, matzah ball soup, rugelach, and brisket. Don't bother trying to politely refuse; resistance is futile. While standing six to protect these people as they worship, work, play, and celebrate, I have also borne the brunt of an onslaught of genuine gratitude for the presence of me, my team, and other stakeholders in the protective operation; "Thank you for being here for us". "Thank you for protecting us." "We couldn't assemble in peace if you guys weren't here." "We are only safe because of you guys" Etc, etc, etc. It's a far cry from being spat on, shot at, and insulted by certain other segments of the population. All this to say, in a roundabout way- the next time you see a soldier, veteran, cop, firefighter, paramedic ordering a drink and a bite at a coffeehouse or diner- think hard about digging deep into your pocket and paying for that order. #WWII Over the course of World War II, countless challenges made basic transportation difficult, costly, and dangerous. The need for fast, efficient, and quiet ways of moving people from A to B—despite fuel shortages, damaged roads, and ongoing battles—led many soldiers and civilians to take advantage of bicycles as transport. Troops in some areas became more nimble, refugees used bikes to carry their family and belongings to safety, air-raid wardens could cover more ground on two wheels, and many civilians had no other options available. This very interesting article has a handful of images of some of the many ways people put bicycles to use during the Second World War.

Did you know #veterans of the U.S. Armed Services and #GoldStar Families can obtain a free lifetime pass to more than 2,000 federal recreation sites? Veterans can present one of four forms of acceptable ID (Department of Defense ID Card, Veteran Health ID (VHIC), Veteran ID Card, or veteran’s designation on a state-issued US driver’s license or ID card) at participating federal recreation areas that normally charge an entrance fee. Gold Star Families can obtain information, self-certify they qualify, and download a voucher on NPS.gov Every year, the #NationalParkService offers free entry for all visitors on #VeteransDay (November 11). In addition to the fee waiver, national parks will offer programs, hikes, and other activities. Many national parks have direct connections to the American #military—dozens of battlefields, military parks, and historic sites commemorate and honor the service of American veterans. In addition, every national park is part of our collective identity that defines who we are and where we came from as a nation. I talk to so many veterans every week about injuries they are dealing with post service that affect their daily lives. Let me remind you that you deserve to THRIVE not just simply SURVIVE! Question: Am I Eligible? Answer: You may be eligible for VA disability benefits or compensation if you meet both requirements, both must be true: 1. You have a current illness or injury known as a condition that affects your mind or body AND 2. You served on active-duty active duty for training or inactive duty training.   Question: What is service connection? Veterans with disabilities that are the result of a disease or injury incurred or aggravated during active military service. YOU NEED TO HAVE ALL THREE (EVIDENCE) to be eligible for Direct Service Connection. Missing 1 will result in a denial from the VA.   1. Evidence of injury, event or disease during military service which resulted in a disability. 2. Evidence of a current physical or mental disability, and 3. Evidence of a relationship (NEXUS) between the in-service injury event or disease and the claimed disability.   1 + 2 + 3 = SERVICE CONNECTION File an Intent to file.
