HRs and Their Headaches, Part 1: Screening Woes In our recent job opening for a role very specifically related to the dubbing industry, I introduced a crucial screening question: "What is your total years of experience in the Dubbing Industry?" The goal was simple: swiftly identify candidates with relevant industry expertise. But here's the maddening twist – not just a few, but the majority of applicants from entirely different sectors boldly claimed to have 5 years of experience in dubbing! Now, I appreciate ambition, but folks, honesty matters! The outcome? A whopping 701 applications, and the infuriating task of sifting through them to find the right fit. It's like searching for a needle in a haystack! So, here's an impassioned plea to all job seekers: Answer screening questions truthfully. It's not just about us; it's about respecting everyone's time in the hiring process. Let's make transparency the norm and save ourselves from these hair-pulling moments. #HRChallenges #HiringProcess #JobSeekers #Transparency #RecruitmentStruggles #HR

Let's talk about how to land your dream job, especially in the media industry. 🙌 I'll start with Producers - the role I'm currently hiring for. In order to get a call from the HR, it is primarily important to make sure that your CV gets shortlisted in the first place. Here I am listing down the key pointers which increase your chances of getting shortlisted for the telephonic round: 👉 READ THE JD: Can't emphasize more on this one. Does the role even align with your portfolio? Check the language preference by the organization - whether the vacancy is for English or Hindi speaking candidates. 👉 Years of Experience: The budget for junior or entry level positions is usually limited that requires someone with 0-2 years of experience. So someone with experience more than that will automatically be considered as overqualified. 👉 Anchoring: Review if the vacancy requires you to have anchoring skills and good camera presence. This is one particular expertise is not merely reciting the script and shooting the video. Most employers are hunting for candidates who have the potential to become the 'face of the company'. 👉 Genre: Research, script formation, video direction etc. are entirely different for each genre, be it entertainment, political, sports, health etc. It thus becomes equally essential that you either already have worked on the required genre or are willing to be introduced. Do follow and let me know if this works for you 😉

Business Co-ordinator | HSE Specialist | Bid monitor & Fundraiser | Communications & Media Specialist | Member of the UGIS Aviation Team |
It was a few days ago that a professional journalist moved from video fame to the desk of a multinational aviation company. Great, great news! Why is hiring a professional journalist to handle the press office or strategic comms dept of a multinational or large company crucial? Hiring a professional journalist to manage the press office of a multinational has several advantages: 1. Communications expertise. Professional journalists have specific training in journalism and communications, which means they are experts in writing, editing and news management. This expertise is crucial for creating clear and effective messages for the company. 2. Knowledge of journalistic best practices. Journalists know how the media world works and know the best practices for achieving positive media coverage. They know how to write press releases that grab the attention of journalists and the public. 3. Crisis management. In the case of crisis situations or scandals, professional journalists are better able to handle the situation as they have experience in dealing with the media and providing appropriate responses. 4. Ethics and objectivity. Journalists are trained to follow a code of ethics that promotes objectivity and truthfulness of information. This is important to maintain the trust of the public and the media. 5. Network of contacts. Journalists often have an extensive network of media contacts, which can be invaluable in obtaining media coverage and establishing relationships with influential journalists. In summary, hiring a professional journalist to manage a multinational company's press office can help ensure effective, ethical and well-managed communication with the media and the public. Many large multinationals use professional journalists or communications professionals to manage their media relations and corporate communications, such as: Leonardo, Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon Technologies, Rolls-Royce, Embraer, JPMorgan Chase & Co, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, HSBC Holdings plc, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs. These companies may hire professional journalists, communications experts or public relations specialists to manage their communications strategy, issue press releases, manage media relations and more. #lovemyjob #Imajournalist #giornalista #Icandothat #iolosofare #love #beautiful

It's about time Singapore aim to create the greatest television series of all time. Attending the WISE GUY David Chase & The Sopranos event at the Tribeca Film Festival got me thinking - do we have the resources, talent, and faith to achieve this? Listening to David Chase and the cast members talk about their experiences working on The Sopranos, the crowd's reactions, and the mix of envy and motivation I felt, sparked a fire within me. While KIN & TANGLIN were suitable for their intended audiences, we haven't yet produced a national success that all Singaporeans can truly be proud of. Why haven't we created our own version of groundbreaking series like The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, or The Bear, with great actors and exceptional writing?I believe we have the talent and resources needed. What's crucial is assembling a dedicated team of diverse Singaporean writers to brainstorm innovative ideas for a globally successful TV series that addresses real issues faced by Singaporeans. We must ensure inclusivity in age, race, and experience within this team. Securing the necessary resources is essential, and we must uphold the highest standards in every aspect of scriptwriting. Casting decisions should be based on actors' suitability and believability for the roles, rather than their fame or following. As we are in 2024, it's time to focus on creating not just safe, but outstanding work for local TV that can resonate with a global audience. Let's strive for greatness in our storytelling and aim to make a significant impact in the television industry. #TheSopranos #GreatTV #GreatWriting #GreatActing #TribecaFilmFestival

How do GDPR rules work with PRs? A well-known vape company have send me many emails trying to get me to promote their products to a young audience. I would never promote them, I think vapes companies should be banned from advertising. And I have never and never would present a story as journalism with a sneaky hidden advert in it which the vape company have repeatedly asked me to do. So, what gives them the right to keep my details when I have not consent to that? This is the sort of thing that has added to the resentment of PRs.
A lot of PR criticism flying around at the moment following the Jay Rayner article. Lot's of people jumping on the band wagon of PR bashing... PRs bashing PRs to leg up to journalists. It's an uncomfortable culture we work in. Here's a story, Today I followed up with a journalist who approached my client directly. They were passed to me because that's why my client pays me - to handle simple press queries. The journalists response was 'No PR'. Frankly rude and unnecessary. PR's may send emails to the wrong person sometimes. But check your journalist superiority complex before you throw stones. For the most part everyone is just trying to do their job well. #PRNews #Journorequest #journalism #bekind #publicrelations #freelanceproblems
