Hello Everyone, I can't explain how excited I am to share my #BeforeAndAfterWithICCP journey with you. I had great expectations to participate in the programme, but we're just two weeks in and I have undergone an extreme mindset shift. My first reality check was the lecture Dr. Akanimo Odon gave on problems. Before listening to his lecture, just like everyone else, I only complained about problems. I wouldn't say I liked problems. Until he said, "Problems are good." Within minutes of listening to him, I began to realize that the problems around me were potentials; opportunities to provide solutions and make an impact. You see when it comes to solving problems, we usually think about solving the big issues with big solutions. As a participants in the #ICCP intervention, I have learnt that problems can be broken into smaller bits for which we can then find solutions to address these little bits that when added together, then solve the big problem. As a metallurgical and materials engineering student, one of the problems I have identified is the long-term negative impact of biodegradable materials such as plastic that take a long time to degrade, yet they are widely used around the world. What if we had an alternative to such materials that last long but are easily degradable? I appreciate the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Lancaster University, British Council, National Universities Commission (NUC), Ahmadu Bello University, Aisha Abdulkadir, Doom Torhee and Harriet Namposya for their efforts in making this programme insightful. #BeforeAndAfterWithICCP #ICCP #SelfReflection

SOON IT STARTS!! The H2020-MSCA-INTERfaces MOOCs: “Tailored Materials and Enzymes for Industrial Processes”!!! As announced earlier in two weeks on the 1st of May, 2024 the three MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) of INTERfaces will be launched. Together with the great team at iMooX.at, we are looking forward to offering this great opportunity for students and everyone else interested in #BIOCATALYSIS, and you can now sign up FOR FREE. We are very excited about it! Have a look at the basic, advanced and sustainability MOOC around (bio)catalysis and how enzymes are used to make industrial processes more sustainable. These MOOCs are a joint effort of the ESRs and many PIs of INTERfaces who contributed via lectures, interviews, experimental videos and questionnaires to make great courses for different levels of knowledge or to refresh what you already know. Take the chance to listen to experts and luminaries of the field of (bio)catalysis and take advantage of this unique possibility.  Our three courses can be found in the “Tailored Materials and Enzymes for Industrial Processes – Series: https://lnkd.in/dTtjhmUY 1. “Tailored Materials and Enzymes for Industrial Processes – Basic Module” is an introductory fundamental course focusing on enzymes, their production and modification via protein engineering, biocatalytic synthesis in organic chemistry, and optimization of the enzymatic applications with process engineering.  2. “Tailored Materials and Enzymes for Industrial Processes – Advanced Module” focusses on state-of-the-art enzyme immobilization techniques, different methods used based on carrier materials and binding chemistries, assessment of immobilized enzymes' performance, and the use of immobilized enzymes in different reactors. Furthermore, we will introduce industrial biocatalytic applications synthesizing chemicals and downstream processing methods towards their isolation. 3. “Tailored Materials and Enzymes for Industrial Processes – Sustainability and Industrial Applications” focusses on how biocatalysis can be implemented at industrial scale, and will show how enzymatic solutions can become environmentally-friendly and industrially relevant at the same time. Chemistry finds application in day to day life activities such as cooking, drinking, washing etc. It's of great importance in Medicine, Pharmaceutical industries, Brewing, Textile, Agriculture, Food processing, Cosmetology, petrochemical industries, Refineries, Engineering and Fabrication, Construction etc. It is necessary to obtain basic knowledge in chemistry because it helps one tackle the basic problems of life. As the world evolve, there's emergence of new chemical species and higher technologies in chemistry. New Master's programme ‘Sustainable and Circular Chemistry’ launched Our society is facing major transitions in using energy, resources, and materials. These transitions call for a specialised programme that approaches sustainability and circularity with chemistry as the central science. The aim of this new programme is to train the chemists of the future to contribute to sustainability issues with both a strong basis in molecular chemistry and a broadened view on the more systemic challenges of sustainability. The new programme Sustainable and Circular Chemistry operates on the interfaces between chemistry, science and society; next to a strong theoretical and experimental base in chemistry, students will learn to understand chemical processes in the broader context of health, environment, and society. They will gain hands-on experience with the design of new, safe, and sustainable routes for making (new) chemicals and materials. Society needs chemists to invent new products that are not only efficient (as drug, catalyst, paint, etc.), but can also be produced, consumed, and disposed of in a sustainable and safe way. We had the honor of presenting our paper, "Green Strategies for Heavy Metal Purification in Water Systems: A Review," at TiChSCON'24, hosted by Sri Venkateshwara College of Engineering. Huge thanks to my amazing teammates Jananishree K and Rithu Kasthure S for their hard work and cooperation. I am immensely grateful to SVCE and their Department of Chemical Engineering for this incredible opportunity. For this study, we delved into the different strategies that can be adopted to solve the critical problem of water contamination by heavy metal ions. Exploring these methods proved to be both fascinating and insightful, offering us a deeper understanding of the intricate balance between theory, data, and experimental analysis necessary to craft cost-effective and sustainable solutions. After navigating through a sea of information, we finally emerged with our perspective on the problem, thereby drawing our inferences into a comprehensive review analysis. The journey was enlightening, reinforcing our commitment to forging a cleaner, safer world for all. Introduction to Industrial Bioprocess Development an online non-credit course authorized by Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and offered through Coursera.

Had my goal-setting meeting this past week with my department head. Aiming high: I want to be able to develop and teach a biotech elective course for our students. I know this will take over a year to develop but I want to make sure I design the best possible course so our students get the most out of it. Planning on taking a Hudson Alpha course next summer to supplement what I know, and picking the brains of colleagues who teach similar courses. #teaching #biotech #STEM
