Have you experienced the ways transportation systems can help (or hurt) a city?

Valid point. I also think a personalized sentimental approach to transit would work as well too. Imagine if the bus stop sign said: “I’m not a bus stop. I’m your ride home.” That would have a deeper emotional impact because people generally have emotional attachments to their homes. A sense of home is very important to most people. Saying that the bus will get you home will resonate with people more than just saying that the bus will get you to work.

Yes, the public transportation bus system in a grid such as Greater Phoenix, AZ wastes too much of a persons time getting to bus stops, missing buses because they don't adhere to the arrival schedules, waiting for the next (correct) bus, and connecting with other routes (many people end up losing their jobs because of this by causing unexcused tardiness). I know because I had to live it many moons ago and it has not changed since then. The light rail, which is an even more expensive public tax dollar subsidized project, has been extremely slow growth in routing for the greater public as well, not to mention all of the home insecure it displaced on the routes that were created or the fact it is essentially tracked on the same roads as automobiles. I was poorer riding the bus than having to maintain my own automobile as the automobile provides much greater access to higher paying wages.

This is a great talking point. As the City of Nanaimo is literally a textbook case of unstainable ribbon development, in 25 years I have never been able to use the local bus service to go to my jobs. Now that I am retired, our bus service is an occasional supplement to using our e-bikes. Cities need to be designed so that our young working people are not forced to use expensive, wasteful motor vehicles.

Spot on - robust & efficient transportation networks provide a means for upward mobility and greater quality of life through access to healthcare and social services, and by connecting underserved communities to economic centers.

Nah... it's a gateway to early financial independance 😉
