🏍 Windsor Engineers' #IT guy, Bruce Anderson, took a road trip this month on his Harley. His destination: Sellersburg, IN and the Seed of Abraham Motorcycle Club’s National meeting. From Duluth, MN, Bruce traveled with six buddies through Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Wisconsin. The trip down was a blistering success, with the temperature at a “feels like” 🌡118°. Each day began with a prayer for safety: for the day, for those around them to be aware of them, and for their families while they were gone. Once in Sellersburg, they had a couple of days of meetings and hung out with guys from other chapters. 🥩 On the way home, humidity broke and the rest of the ride back home was comfortable. They had time in the pool, followed by dinner at Steak n Shake in Rockford, Illinois. (YUM!) Despite a few wrong terms and mishaps (like the flat tire, and the time someone in Indiana almost ran them off the road, it was a great adventure. “It was a great trip with a great group of guys I call my friends, brothers, family,” says Bruce. 🧡 Thank you for sharing, Bruce! I've come to realize that successful business often boils down to the application of common sense. In fact, the absence of common sense is bankruptcy. During my tenure at Frank Paxton Lumber, we faced a significant challenge when fulfilling a large mill order for clean, straight-grain Sugar Maple (acer saccharum). The customer was adamant about not accepting any wood with figured grain. Instead of discarding the cut-offs from these large pieces, I made the decision to allocate them to Jeff Arnold, who managed our retail store. Surprisingly, what others considered scrap turned out to be highly sought-after by luthiers, many of whom relied on Jeff for their lumber supply. Interestingly, my operations manager, Dave, didn't share my enthusiasm for this approach. I couldn't quite grasp his perspective – why wouldn't we want the company to thrive financially rather than waste potential revenue? It was only much later that I comprehended the underlying factor: ego. Vince, our plant manager, created a perceived rivalry between the warehouse and retail divisions. Dave and Jeff seemed to be competing against each other, and unfortunately, the customers were caught in the crossfire. This experience taught me a valuable lesson in the world of business, one that would eventually pave the way for my global adventures. It reinforced the importance of putting the interests of the company and its customers ahead of personal agendas, ultimately leading to greater success for all involved. 🌟 #BusinessWisdom #SuccessMindset #LeadershipLessons

He is one of our Project Executives and has been with Creekside for 12 years. Steve brings his great worth ethic and infectious positive attitude with him wherever he goes. He is a supportive and encouraging leader, who excels at building strong teams and Creekside is very lucky to have him! Let's learn a little bit more about Steve... Q: How many years in the industry? A: Started working in construction with my dad when I was 14 so, 28 years. Q: What do you love/enjoy about the field? A: I love that in this field I am always learning, and with each project I always get to learn a little more. Also, I love experiencing projects from different perspectives which are all valid. A carpenter sees a project differently than it does as a project executive and having experienced both, I think they are both pretty cool. Q: What is one of your favorite things to do on your weekends/ day off? A: Snowboarding in the wintertime, and anything on two wheels in the summer. Q: If you had a superpower, what would it be? A: I think it would be awesome to be able to fly. Q: What’s your guilty pleasure song? A: ‘We Know The Way’ from Moana. Apparently have seen that movie too many times. Q: What is the worst fashion decision you ever made? Do you have pictures? A: Wearing Jean shorts, AKA Jorts to the gym. May not ever live that one down and all pictures have been destroyed that I am aware of.
