Today, let’s talk about the most epic bartering wins I've had (before this crowdbartering campaign anyway) – the launch party for Barter Black®! A lot of people won’t tell you this or refuse to call it bartering, but this is the secret sauce at these events. Don't sleep on it, embrace it! For our launch event, we bartered some amazing services: 🌟 A keynote speaker that blew our minds 🌟 Pitch training for our community that was next level 🌟 A website and graphics for the event (I did have to pay some in cash because her value was more than mine…but I saved!) 🌟 Event styling for all three days 🌟 Ads that got the word out there 🌟 ASL interpreters to make sure everyone was included 🌟 The best event staff to help pull it all off If you've ever thrown an event, or even thought about it, you know this kind of support costs a pretty penny. But guess what? Bartering made it all possible without breaking the bank. And the cherry on top? The company that provided the ASL interpreters got us a feature on Rap Snacks Instagram with an entire interview 🔥 People want what you have, so why aren’t you leveraging that to get what you need? If you want to keep up with the growing field of #nonprofitnews, subscribe to our INNovation newsletter. https://lnkd.in/eEBUkpS4 We finished the conference with a closing panel moderated by INN's Sharene Azimi, in which Arizona Center for Investigative Reporting's Brandon Quester, Capital B's Gillian White and American Journalism Project's Michelle Srbinovich reflected on bright spots and highlighted lessons learned over the 15 years since INN's inception, and discussed opportunities for the future. Here are a few highlights from the panel: 🎙️ Srbinovich on why the American Journalism Project has high standards for selecting grantees: "We're invested in building civic institutions...It's one thing to put things on your website and say they're your standards. It's another thing to really live those values." 🎙️ Quester on nonpartisan coverage in the state of Arizona: "We can't overlook how hard it is to operate in a hyper-partisan environment...More often than not, we hear from readers who say 'Thank you. You covered that issue fairly.'" 🎙️ White on the importance of revenue diversification: "I actually want to have a conversation about revenue streams and diversification...but foundation revenue is important and needs to be in the conversation always."
