But that’s not all—B.C. Researchers at the International Solar Energy Research Center Konstanz (ISC Konstanz) in Germany have developed a groundbreaking method to measure the contact resistance of solar cell interconnections made with electrically conductive adhesives (ECAs). 🔹 What are ECAs? ECAs are composed of adhesive polymers embedded with metallic filler particles like silver. They are crucial in solar PV designs, especially for ribbon, shingle, and conductive backsheet interconnections. They are also used in manufacturing silicon heterojunction (SHJ) and tandem perovskite-silicon cells. 🔹 Why is this important? The new method allows precise characterization of both contact resistivity and bulk resistivity. This means better ECA bonding measurements, which can optimize ECA material formulations—using different amounts or shapes of fillers, or depositing various geometries of the ECA material on bonding surfaces. This optimization is key to reducing manufacturing costs without compromising performance. Researchers from Wuhan University of Technology and Central South University in China have developed an ultra-thin organic solar cell with a record-breaking power-per-weight ratio of 39 W/g. This innovative solar cell boasts a thickness of less than 1.5 micrometers and an impressive power conversion efficiency of 17%. 🔍 Key Innovations: - Bilayer Hole Transport Layer (HTL): The cell features a molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) interlayer between PEDOT (a blend of polymers) and indium tin oxide (ITO), enabling exceptional efficiency and stability. - Remarkable Durability: After 2000 hours of storage, the device retained 91.4% of its original efficiency. It also showed outstanding performance in mechanical tests, maintaining high efficiency after 1000 cycles of bending and compression stretching. Lead author Wenchao Huang highlighted that this achievement marks the highest power-per-weight ratio ever recorded for organic solar cells, setting a new standard for the industry. Dutch-Norwegian specialists SolarDuck, in collaboration with RWE, have successfully installed an offshore floating solar pilot project in the Dutch North Sea. 🔹 Project Highlights: - Location: 12 km off the coast of Scheveningen, the Netherlands. - Capacity: 0.5 MWp Merganser array. - Innovation: The scalable concept features six interconnected platforms designed to withstand extreme offshore conditions. This groundbreaking pilot project aims to explore large-scale commercial deployment of offshore floating solar. Tesla has shattered its own records with a groundbreaking deployment of 9.4 GWh of energy storage in Q2 of 2024, marking a remarkable 131% increase from the previous quarter and a staggering 157% surge compared to Q2 of 2023. In just the first half of 2024, Tesla's energy storage installations have already surpassed 91% of the total deployed throughout the entirety of 2023, with Q2 alone accounting for nearly 64% of last year's capacity. This milestone was highlighted in Tesla’s latest quarterly press release, traditionally focused on vehicle production, underscoring the growing significance of energy storage in Tesla’s portfolio.
