There are many stereotypes and simplistic narratives about "rural America". In practice rural communities in the US are remarkably diverse and represent 20% of the total population. Yet despite their importance, rural areas only receive 5% of large philanthropic grants. A new report I've authored for The Conference Board explores the current state and future opportunities for companies to make an impact in rural communities through their corporate citizenship and philanthropy efforts. Doing so can move the needle on societal issues, generate tangible business returns, and help restore America’s frayed social fabric. Philea - Philanthropy Europe Association is one of those rare organizations that have set themselves a courageous goal: to truly move our sector of #philanthropy to the next level, to nudge us forward, out of our comfort zones, into the unknown, to embrace what it means to contribute to our world's problems in a way that matches the challenge. Philanthropy has a unique role in our world: it can fund what cannot be funded. It can make impossible things possible. It can raise our aspirations and change mindsets. For that to happen it also has to ask itself some tough questions: - Are we being courageous enough? - Is how we are spending our money fit for purpose?- Are we truly rising to the challenges? - Are we doing all we can? - Are we doing all we must do? And what does that mean for our relationship with #trust in this world, with our partners, with those we serve? I am super excited to explore these questions with such an amazing group of dedicated people next week in #Ghent at #PhileaForum2024 Ashoka #EveryoneAChangemaker with Delphine Moralis Carola Carazzone Raphaela Toncic-Sorinj David Bonbright
The #PhileaForum2024 will see over 100 speakers contribute throughout the programme! The voices joining us at the Opening and Closing plenaries include: - Rutger Bregman, The School for Moral Ambition - Christine Sow, Humentum - Rhodri Davies, Why Philanthropy Matters - Sophie Pornschlegel, Europe Jacques Delors - Damir Sagolj, WARM Foundation - Marie Ringler, Ashoka And many more! A call for a plan for childhood and a hopeful vision in 'Raising the Nation'. Alarming headlines warn of a generation of youngsters scarred by austerity and the pandemic, facing deepening poverty, crumbling schools and a mental health crisis. Patrick Butler's article in yesterday's Guardian (https://ow.ly/FybY50QFyGp) revealed that children's services leaders are urging a national 'plan for childhood' to invest in their well-being, education and life chances. 'Raising the Nation' by Paul Lindley offers a compelling vision for building a brighter future for our children. It advocates for smart, strong and kind children who can become stewards of society, with big public policy ideas and real-world solutions. #ChildrensRights #InvestInOurFuture #RaisingTheNation #nonfiction #Parenting #Education #Wellbeing Find out more at https://ow.ly/7u5p50QFyGo

Q: "Why did you name Next Gen Men's first conference the Momentum Summit?" A: In the work of 'engaging men and boys' – so many conversations are framed around STARTING to engage and the NEED to do so. This makes it feel like this work isn't already happening and there aren't wins to celebrate, but it is and there are. It's happening in all of our conference themes: - Engaging Boys and Young Men as Stakeholders and Allies - Men's Mental Health as an Entry Point - Psychological Safety Among Men at Work - Engaging Men in Accountability and Transformation - Navigating Pushback in Male Engagement Efforts - Fathering the Future of Masculinity - Managing for Multiple Masculinities We're not at a stop, or a start. This work is already rolling. What this summit is about, is building MOMENTUM. 🎟️ Early bird registration (save $100!) is open til July 23rd!
