When I learned about AI, I first thought of those all-nighters I pulled in college writing terms papers. I could have saved myself a significant amount of time and energy. Now, when I think about AI for creating content, writing articles, and everything else it can and will do, I don't think about saving time writing term papers. Instead, I wonder if I'm reading content written by a robot. And then I project out into the future and ask myself, when will the robots just be talking to other robots because we've gotten too lazy to do the work? When, if ever, will using AI to be efficient no longer be a convenience but a nuisance for those searching to relate authentically? Now, when I think about my college term papers, I no longer wish I had AI to help me; I'm thankful I had Mountain Dew and poor time management. I will continue to explore AI carefully. I was at a meeting the other day and someone asked me if I planned on using AI to improve our social media content. I was blown away. AI has become such a buzzword that it has now permeated our society. The real problem, though, is that people don't understand what AI is and can do (at this point in time). The most common AI, and the one being referred to in this case, is a Large Language Model, which absorbs what would be an overwhelming amount of writing (to a human) and mines it for patterns and then recreates those patterns when prompted. So what's the problem? Finding patterns is akin to finding the repetitive drivel that most people write. Hackneyed phrases, buzzwords (like AI!), poor grammar and lots of word salads. So tell me how that is going to make your creative endeavors more impactful?! Here's a hint...it's not. Every time I wonder about how impactful AI can be, I think of my clothes dryer. It is the smartest machine in my house. Connects to the internet, can tell me through my TV when cycles are done, has more settings than an Airbus A380. You know what it sucks at?? Yep, drying clothes. No matter what setting I use, the clothes are always damp at the end. I long for the days of my Maytag with the twist dial that went from small load to extra-large and didn't bother me in between, just dried the clothes. Folks, using AI to sharpen your writing or make your messages stand out is like bringing an intelligent clothes dryer to a gunfight. #ai #pr #communications #crisiscommunications #crisis #publicaffairs #writing

To differentiate your writing from AI generated content, write with your emotions. Emotions don't lie, and it's emotions that make us human. Write what you feel in your skin. The left brain (the logical brain) is easy to model through AI, the right brain (considered the emotional side of the brain, not quite). Robots don't get goosebumps. #writing vs. #AI

Confessions of an AI-powered slacker (who learned the error of his ways):- Me, day 1 with AI: "Hey AI, write me a sonnet about a narwhal in love with a toaster." (Watches TV while AI churns out questionable poetry) Me, day 3 (existential crisis mode): "Is AI the downfall of creativity? As a writer AND a singer, this feels like the robot uprising, but for art!" Me, after actually learning how to use AI (shocking, I know): "Wait, using prompts to improve my writing and knowledge is actually pretty cool! Like, a digital thesaurus with a built-in grammar checker on steroids!" Moral of the story: AI is a fancy tool, not a replacement for the human touch. Use it to enhance, not replace, your creativity. POV: Other ghostwriters using complicated AI prompts, re-writing the posts anyway, and working 20 hours a day for hustle culture (but telling the world how AI saved them so much time!) ME: Sipping wine at sunset. Because I already wrote 30 posts for my clients in the last 2 days WITHOUT AI and my creative mind is still free to wander 🤷🏼♀️ I’m not saying AI isn’t amazing 🤖 Or that it doesn’t have its place. But if everyone copies the same AI prompts, you gotta realise the content gonna start sounding samey?! Embrace your originality, and practice. The process gets faster the better you get. How you can out-do AI 🤖 When AI first came out, many thought this was the perfect writing tool! However if you work with words, you’ll be able to spot it’s shiny exterior (fancy big words) often detracting from the lack of solid useful, technical content. Now that we’ve got soo much information, so easily large paragraphs of writing have become cheap, but our eyes can only read just as fast as they did before AI, and our time is still limited to 24/7. AI will get better, but how will humans fit in?
