In honor of Generations at Work Month, we’re celebrating the range of skills, perspectives and experiences that each generation brings to the workplace. Throughout July, #TRVEmployees will join panel discussions, networking events and local community volunteer activities sponsored by our Young Professionals & Allies Diversity Network. These events, inspired by our theme “Connecting with Purpose,” are just one of the many opportunities our employees will have to come together, learn from each other and celebrate all generations that work side by side. 💡 Learn more about our Diversity Networks: https://travl.rs/3RRBfad

🎉 Celebrating National Day for Staff Networks! 🎉 At Principality Building Society, our staff networks are more than just groups of people – they're vibrant communities that make our workplace a better, more inclusive environment. I often read in guides and books that this is the remit of a staff network - but personally, I disagree. Here at Principality, our networks are supported by the leaders of our organization, which means that they have an impact beyond scale and input into delivering our strategy. We are empowered to lead on initiatives and feed into a number of things across our organization. Some examples of this would be the delivery of our carbon awareness training to the whole organization, written and delivered by our very own Planet-Friendly Network. The diversity of thought that goes into policies and procedures makes Principality a leader in areas like our family-friendly policy, flexible working, and Carers leave. Our sponsorship of Pride Cymru, which we are immensely proud of, is driven by our inclusion manager, brand team, and Pride Network. And our annual Network Open Day is an opportunity for the whole company to learn more, have some time away from the desk, and come meet some pretty awesome people! As someone who helps shape our network strategy, I'm continually inspired by the dedication of my colleagues. They not only excel in their day-to-day roles but also commit themselves to the success of their networks, embodying the true spirit of collaboration and community. I couldn't be prouder of the work we do, and I encourage everyone to recognize the power of their networks. Together, we can create a workplace where everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered to thrive. If anyone would like to learn more about our Networks, feel free to comment or message me. We are always looking to share our experience with others so we can all continue to learn together. Happy National Day for Staff Networks! 🌟 #PrincipalityNetworks #Inclusion #Diversity #Empowerment

How do you support neurodiverse staff in your workplace? As it’s Neurodiversity Celebration Week I've been reflecting on how, within the team I manage at Tameside Council, we acknowledge and appreciate the unique strengths and abilities of each individual. When a colleague reveals they are neurodivergent, it's crucial to approach the conversation with openness and honesty. We start by understanding their skill set, preferred communication style, and support needs for peak performance each day. I'll admit, I wasn’t initially sure how best to support them when I hired my first neurodiverse team member. But it's okay to acknowledge uncertainties and be open to learning. Supporting neurodiversity isn't about getting it right the first time; it's about ongoing dialogue and adaptation. Through collaborating with neurodiverse colleagues, I've gained invaluable insights. Our team culture now values diverse approaches to work. Personally, I've reconsidered how I engage with all team members, applying adjustments where needed. Providing support shouldn't feel like a burden—it's about creating an environment where everyone can thrive. At Tameside Council, we're fortunate to have ample support and resources. Let's continue championing neurodiversity and fostering an inclusive workplace together!

🌟 A thought-provoking post for the LinkedIn community 🌟 🤔 Are we building bridges or walls? 🤔 ✨ We live in an interconnected world where collaboration and diversity are essential for growth and progress. Yet, it seems that division and polarization are becoming more prevalent in society. As professionals, it's crucial for us to ask ourselves: Are we consciously building bridges or unconsciously constructing walls? 💡 Let's reflect on this together and explore how we can foster collaboration, diversity, and inclusivity in our workplaces, industries, and communities. Here are some key points to consider: 1️⃣ Embrace diversity: Our differences in backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives contribute to the richness of our experiences and the strength of our ideas. Actively seek out diverse voices and perspectives, both within your teams and in your network. Encourage open discussions and value the input of every individual to create an inclusive environment. 2️⃣ Foster empathy: Developing a genuine understanding and empathy towards others' experiences is essential to building bridges. Practice active listening, put yourself in someone else's shoes, and be open-minded. By making an effort to truly understand others, we can overcome biases and forge connections that transcend individual differences. 3️⃣ Encourage collaboration: Collaboration often leads to innovation and breakthroughs. Break down silos and promote cross-functional teamwork within your organization. Encourage knowledge sharing and create platforms for colleagues to exchange ideas, expertise, and insights. Together, we can achieve more and accomplish remarkable results. 4️⃣ Be an ally: Advocate for change, especially for underrepresented groups in your industry. Offer support, mentorship, and sponsorship to individuals who may face barriers or discrimination. Use your platform to amplify diverse voices and champion inclusivity. Together, we can create a more equitable and inclusive world. 5️⃣ Seek common ground: In a world filled with differing opinions and beliefs, it's essential to find common ground. Look for shared interests and values, and use them as a foundation for constructive dialogue and collaboration. By focusing on our similarities instead of our differences, we can overcome division and find solutions that benefit all. 🌍 The power to build bridges lies within each of us, and it's up to us to rise above division and embrace unity. Let's commit ourselves to breaking down walls, fostering inclusivity, and building a future where collaboration, diversity, and empathy reign. 🚀 Together, let's build bridges and thrive! 🚀 #BuildingBridges #InclusionMatters #CollaborationIsKey #EmbracingDiversity #EmpathyInTheWorkplace #UnityInAction

Senior Traffic & Environmental Analyst, Co-Chair of Ability Affinity Network | Eating Disorders, Disability and Stoma Awareness Campaigner
Affinity Networks. Your organisation may have them, you may be involved in them, you may not have a clue what they are… but the role they can play in driving a more inclusive culture is vital. Why? Affinity Networks tend to be owned and run by people who are not directly employed in EDI roles. They are separate to the business in that sense, and really can help build a trusting relationship where people feel safer to be more open. They involve people with personal, lived experience. All the theory, textbooks and guidance in the world cannot replace the experience of a diverse range of people who have lived with/alongside the oppression or protected characteristic(s). With the right support from Senior Leadership, and the autonomy to act, Affinity Networks can be the grass-routes of real, lasting, tangible #culture change, building a more inclusive workplace, improved wellbeing, and better productivity, retention and recruitment of diverse talent. I’m proud to be part of 2 amazing Affinity Networks at Eiffage Kier Ferrovial BAM: The Ability Affinity Network and the LGBTQIA+ Network… one as a co-chair (alongside two awesome people Victoria Hingley & Gemma Bailey-Smith), and one as a (very) loud participant. The question of “How do we create a culture change?” is one that garners a lot of differing opinions. Personally I believe it starts with grassroots action, and builds organically. One that brings people along on a journey to realise that it’s an inclusive workplace is a happier, healthier, more productive, better performing one.
