We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Jason Heavner as our new Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Dr. Heavner has been with UM BWMC since 2004, most recently serving as Vice President and Associate Chief Medical Officer. In his new role as CMO, he will lead a staff of over 1,000 clinicians, oversee research efforts, physician services, population health, primary and specialty care, and graduate medical education. Dr. Heavner brings a wealth of experience in pulmonary and critical care medicine and has been instrumental in expanding services to meet the critical care needs of Anne Arundel County residents. Welcome, Dr. Heavner!

Kidney Transplant Physician Relations Manager Kristy Sudbrink goes above and beyond by providing patient education at community Dialysis Centers. During a recent visit, she met a 32-year-old woman who had been on dialysis for 13 years but had never considered a transplant. Kristy helped her understand the transplant process and its potential impact, bringing both of them to tears as they imagined a life without dialysis.

We are thrilled to announce that Carol Ann Sperry, RN, MS, CEN, Director of Emergency Services and Emergency Management at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center has been named a 2024 Health Care Hero by The Daily Record in the Lifetime Achievement category. With over 40 years in nursing, Carol Ann's leadership and dedication have profoundly impacted patient care and safety. Her initiatives, such as the First Look nursing model, have set new standards in emergency care. Congratulations, Carol Ann, on this well-deserved recognition.

Donica Thompson, an Injury Prevention and Outreach Coordinator for Trauma Services at the University of Maryland Capital Region Health finds deep fulfillment in helping people survive traumatic events. After the tragic loss of her own father to a fall trauma, Donica turned her grief into a passion for preventing injuries and supporting those affected by trauma. Her personal experience fuels her dedication to ensuring others have a fighting chance at recovery. #UMMSFamily
