If you're on the hunt for your first job in Information Technology, a great entry point are MSPs (Managed Service Providers). These are often small businesses with a handful of employees that work locally in your area with other small to medium-sized businesses, supporting their I.T. needs. I recommend this because with an MSP, you'll get exposure to a wide range of software and hardware systems, as well as building your interpersonal skills. Your first role will likely be a Help Desk position. While this may feel underwhelming to some, this is a great opportunity to learn how you support the clients and what kind of impact you can have in their day to day operations. This can be very satisfying work. If you're in the job-seeking community, it's a good idea to look at resources like Robert Half, a technology recruiting firm. And to be fully transparent in your resume about what kind of technology exposure you have. When I was hired for my first professional I.T. job, all I had done was build my own gaming PC.
