My 2023 Wrapped This year, I had the opportunity to attend the #CleanEnergyConference, which truly put into perspective many things we often take for granted. From carbon credits to electric vehicles (EV), clean energy has now become a critical piece of energy policy as countries struggle with the effects of climate change. The transition to sustainable practices not only mitigates environmental damage but also fosters innovation, job creation, and global collaboration, signaling a paradigm shift towards a more resilient and ecologically responsible future. As governments worldwide embrace renewable technologies and implement stringent emissions targets, the clean energy revolution stands poised to reshape economies, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and forge a path towards a greener, more sustainable world. #cleanenergy #renewableenergy

💡 Our #DecarbSpeedways study outlines the 𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 to deliver on the EU climate ambition. And there are manyfold: permitting acceleration, modernised grids, increased flexibility... But if all are put in place, the benefits go beyond our climate targets. Consumers’ #energybills can drop by 30% in 2040 (and more in 2050)! On top of this, a swift energy transition could save the EU over €175 billion in fuel imports, all while improving clean technology competitiveness and lowering the footprint of EU-produced goods and services. If interested in why electrification is the way to go.
Overcoming stagnation: Why the next European Commission needs to come up with an #electrification action plan. Despite a broad acceptance amongst the expert community that electrification is the way to go, we continue to witness stagnating electrification rates across Europe, says Cillian O'Donoghue at Eurelectric. Business Hubs Advisor - Policy Integration Lead, supporting business leaders in their efforts to make net-zero emission transport and buildings a reality
"Despite a broad acceptance amongst the expert community that electrification is the way to go, we continue to witness stagnating electrification rates across Europe", says Cillian O'Donoghue at Eurelectric in a very interesting article available here: https://lnkd.in/eQbSeN_G My sparse thoughts on the matter and salient points from the article: 🔌 Electrification Matters and it can Unlock the European Green Deal’s Potential As we strive for a greener future, electrification emerges as a powerful tool. The European Commission knows this, and it’s time to take action. 🌍 📈 The Challenge: Electricity currently accounts for only 23% of energy consumption in Europe. To achieve our climate and energy goals, we need to accelerate electrification. Large parts of our economy still rely on fossil fuels, hindering progress. 🚀 The Solution proposed by Eurelectric sounds like something the European Commission might like: an Electrification Action Plan (EAP) within the first 100 days of the new mandate. The EAP whould: (a) Set an indicative target of 35% electrification by 2030 across the EU, (b) Include an electrification indicator in national energy and climate plans (NECPs) to monitor progress, and (c) Showcase electricity’s true value and cost-saving potential. 🔗 Why It Matters: Electrification is not an empty objective, it is a mean to an end, and a dual one! Electrification isn’t just about reducing emissions, it’s an energy efficiency win. Heat pumps, for instance, could slash energy demand by two-thirds. Modelling suggests that electrification rates must reach 50%-70% by 2050 for Europe to achieve climate neutrality. Let’s power up the progress! 💡🌱 As Eurelectric gets ready to host the #PowerSummit24 #LightsOn on 22-23 May at Lagonissi, Athens (Greece), get in touch if you want to continue this conversation!
