Serco awarded €21m contract by EUMETSAT to deliver the Copernicus Analyst and Controller Service

Serco Europe has been awarded a new contract by the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) to run the Copernicus Analyst and Controller Service. The contract, valued at €21m, spans a duration of six years. To deliver the services, Serco will work together with Telespazio Germany GmbH.

Serco will provide teams of spacecraft controllers and analysts who will be responsible for monitoring and controlling the satellites’ journey on a 24/7 basis, ensuring the health and safety of the spacecraft, and downloading data from the satellite.

Serco team celebrates ESA's EUCLID mission launch

Serco’s Space team is celebrating the successful launch of the European Space Agency’s EUCLID mission, which will explore the evolution of the dark Universe, by surveying one third of the sky, observing billions of galaxies and create the most extensive 3D-map of the Universe.

We are proud of our colleagues working at ESA Operations, Engineering & Space Safety, the European Astronomy Centre (ESAC) and ESA/ESTEC who have been involved in the EUCLID development, launch and operational support!

Serco receives ESA Frame Contract (EFC2) “Best in Domain” Award

Serco is delighted to announce that we have received a new “Best in Domain” award from our customer the European Space Agency (ESA)  in the framework of our currently running contract.

The awards were announced and given during a ceremony event held in October in the Netherlands to all Prime contractors providing the best quality of support under the ESA Directorates Competitive Frame Contract 2 (EFC2), which will run until the end of 2024.

As part of this contract, Serco colleagues provide services in various areas spanning from Space, Telecommunications, Product Assurance Engineering, through Software Engineering and Data Science, to Business Administration and Project Management.

Serco partners with aerospace accelerator Starburst to boost UAE space innovation

Serco has announced a partnership with Starburst, the world-renowned aerospace accelerator, to drive innovation in the UAE space industry and to foster the growth of space ecosystems worldwide. The partnership builds on a well-established and successful European-wide collaboration between two key players in the field.

Through this partnership, Serco and Starburst aim to support the UAE Government in achieving their goals in the new space economy. The partnership will support start-ups working within the sector by giving them access to international projects, accelerating their business development and ensuring Serco clients have first access to the latest, most cutting-edge innovations.

Serco awarded new contract by EUMETSAT to manage its IT Data Centre and Infrastructure

Serco Europe has been awarded another contract by the European Organisation for the Exploration of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) to manage its IT Data Centre and Infrastructure Service. The contract, including extensions, spans a duration of five years.

Serco is the sole provider for this contract and will be responsible for delivering full support to the major elements of the EUMETSAT Corporate IT environment and infrastructure. This includes system administration support to desktops and Microsoft applications, as well as the EUMETSAT data centre. The service activities focus on both the routine operation and maintenance of existing infrastructure, as well as the evolution and enhancement of the EUMETSAT IT environment to meet future needs.

Serco Middle East Launches Graduate Space Programme in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Having recently launched their Saudi Space Division based out of Riyadh, Serco Middle East has opened applications for its Graduate Space Programme, with the aim of recruiting young national engineers. With the growth of its international reputation in the space industry a key pillar in Vision 2030, the Communications, Space & Technology Commission (CST) is tasked with ensuring that local talent is nurtured and developed in what is still a developing sector for the nation.

ECLIPSE Software Suite 8.0 release and new clients

We continuously improve our ECLIPSE Software Suite to provide the best possible experience for all our users and put the features you need to get your project to the next level. The new features of the latest release were include:

  • Option to select the Display language as French in addition to English
  • Security enhancement to eRID module
  • Notification emails now include more information
  • The MS Office file Editor for DCCM Working files has also been extended to include the ability to edit MS Excel files

We are happy to welcome the following companies as our new ECLIPSE clients in 2023 so far: The UK Space Agency (UKSA), DLR (The German Space Agency), HUN-REN Center for Energy Research, REMRED, Clear Space, University of Leicester, SRON and ReOrbit.

Celebrating 60th years of Royal Air Force Fylingdales

Royal Air Force (RAF) Fylingdales, the UK’s ballistic missile early warning service and primary military space sensor has celebrated its 60th birthday at the station.Since its establishment 60 years ago, RAF Fylingdales has played a vital role in safeguarding the United Kingdom and its allies from potential threats. Throughout its history, the installation has undergone various transformations, all with the support of Serco.

We not only provide technical services, but expertise in project management, systems integration, and technology implementation has contributed to the station’s overall effectiveness, while our orbital analysts support the Ministry of Defence’s space surveillance mission. Recently, we upgraded the Space Track Processor, a critical software tool that allows our orbital analysts to interpret the radar data and improve space domain awareness, an important task for UK Space Command and allies.

The past few months have been really busy for our space teams attending most of the key industry conferences, maintaining a strategic overview of the ever-evolving Global space landscape, and establishing new connections with customers and peers. We are expecting a busy and exciting year ahead of us in terms of attending key industry and academia events, which will further expand our network within the buzzing space industry.
