Midfielder Donny van de Beek has announced he is leaving Manchester United.

United have agreed a deal with Spanish club Girona to sell the midfielder on a permanent basis. He joined the Reds in 2020 and failed to ever make his mark at Old Trafford.

He spent the second half of last season out on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt, marking his second loan spell away from Old Trafford in less than four years. He spent time at Everton in 2021/22.

Elsewhere, United are continuing to work hard to add new faces to manager Erik ten Hag's squad. The club is understood to be making progress on deals to bring both Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee to Old Trafford.

On Tuesday, United had an offer accepted for Lille defender Leny Yoro as they continue to explore various options to strengthen their centre-back options. However, they face fierce competition from Real Madrid for the youngster's signature.

Zirkzee hint

Manchester United fans have spotted an exchange that took place between Joshua Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo after tonight's Euro 2024 semi-final between England and the Netherlands.

MEN Sport understands talks between Zirkzee, Bologna and the Reds are progressing well and United are confident they will be able to complete a deal before the month ends. The 23-year-old has a £33m release clause inserted into his contract at the Serie A club.

However, the Manchester Evening News understands this figure will not be the end of the costs for United if they want to bring Zirkzee on board. The forward's agent fees could balloon the cost for Zirkzee significantly with sources in Italy suggesting the fee is more likely to be £46m for the striker.

OPINION: Ten Hag might be about to unleash United's next academy hopeful

"Looking at the here and now in isolation, however, United have the opportunity to run the rule over one of their most sought-after academy products in the form of Harry Amass. The left-back, 17, was trusted by Ten Hag to take up residency on the first-team bench seven times last season, including for the FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City at Wembley. Of course, Amass' sharp rise to the first-team fold was a direct result of United's injury woes, but Ten Hag, as we know, only includes young players in his matchday squads that he genuinely believes have the credentials to make the grade at Old Trafford."

Bayern to 'receive half' of Zirkzee transfer fee

According to a report by fussball.news, Bayern Munich will bank '50 per cent' of any fixed transfer fee paid for Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee.

United have been making progress with a move for the Netherlands international and are optimistic of luring him to Old Trafford.

He joined Bologna from Bayern in 2022 and it is now reported that Bayern are entitled to half of the transfer fee Bologna may receive.

OPINION: United are set for the biggest day of their transfer window so far with two key events

"Rival clubs and agents will probably pore over the results to see just how much extra flesh there is to extract from United this summer. Everton, having rejected two bids for 21-year-old centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, will be looking to see if their Old Trafford counterparts are bluffing about their financial picture. It is expected United's initial budget this summer allows for a spend of around £50m and the latest results might help paint a picture of why that is the case. A quiet January window and some loan fees helped push the club clear of any worries around the Premier League's financial rules, but there is still caution among the financial experts at United."

Williams signs professional contract

Ethan Williams has signed his first professional contract with United.

The MEN revealed in May that Williams signed a pre-pro deal earlier in the season, which was set to begin this summer and the official photos have been taken.

Williams contributed 17 goals and nine assists in academy fixtures this term and played a crucial role in a supremely talented Under-18 side that claimed a treble.

It was already known that United would be paying the fees associated with the £1.25bn deal for Ineos to acquire a minority stake in the club and the accounts for the first three months of the year have revealed further details, with costs associated both to Ratcliffe as the buyer and the Glazer family.

OPINION: United have something Madrid cannot offer in Yoro transfer talks

"Competing against Madrid for a player is a difficult task for any club, however, it would be naive to think United don't have a strong chance of signing Leny Yoro. They have submitted an early bid for the player, which shows how much they want him, and can offer more game time. The defensive upheaval is ongoing at United after Raphael Varane's departure on a free transfer and the 'release' of Jonny Evans, who remains in talks over another short-term contract. Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are the remaining senior centre-backs. Lindelof has entered the final year of his contract and this summer is the last chance to obtain a reasonable fee for him, which explains why as many as three new centre-backs could be signed."

Fernandes sends message to Van de Beek as exit confirmed

United captain Bruno Fernandes has told Donny van de Beek he "deserves the best" after announcing his exit from Old Trafford.

The midfielder released a statement on his Instagram page earlier today, confirming he is leaving the club after four years in M16. He is poised to complete a move to Spanish club Girona on a permanent basis.

Replying to Van de Beek's Instagram message, Fernandes posted: "You deserve the best."

United holding 'internal discussions' about new Branthwaite bid

United are continuing to hold 'internal discussions' about the possibility of launching a third bid for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, according to Sky Sports.

After seeing an opening offer turned down last month, United saw a fresh attempt to sign the centre-back knocked back earlier this week. United tabled an offer of £45million plus £5m in add-ons.

United are looking at other centre-backs, such as Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro, and have seen an offer for the latter accepted.

United accounts reveal £71m loss

United posted a net loss of £71.4m between January and March this year as their group stage exit from the Champions League hit them hard.

The heavy loss compared to a deficit of £5.6m for the same three-month period last year and reflected the fact that there were nine fewer games at Old Trafford in this quarter compared to 2023.

United exited the Champions League in December after winning just one of their six group matches. They finished bottom of the pile in Group A, watching Bayern Munich and FC Copenhagen advance to the last-16 while Galatasaray went into the Europa League.
