Recently, however, the buzz surrounding Garcia isn't about his social media antics but rather his one-year suspension following positive tests for ostarine, a performance-enhancing drug, retroactive to his majority decision victory over Devin Haney on April 20.
Garcia's suspension, however, is unrelated to his frequent and often unusual social media posts, primarily on X, formerly known as Twitter. In one such post, Garcia shared a video on Instagram of him hitting a punching bag, with a woman's voice heard in the background asking, "Is that a boxer?" among other unclear comments audible in the video. Garcia captioned the post, "I straight got harassed. Bruh, that was weird. If you are a woman, don't do this."
Although I wouldn't be surprised if he told a woman to scream in his video just to make it flashier, either. Regardless of gender, no one should harass others. Recently, Garcia also posted about a Pride Month march where participants were naked, expressing a rare moment of agreement with him: "No one cares if someone wants to be gay or proud, but once children are affected, it needs to be stopped." Seeing someone walking naked, especially in a crowd, can indeed feel like harassment to some.
Garcia will have a year, unless his sentence is reduced, to continue sharing glimpses of his daily life. His posts can be funny, cringeworthy, or surprising, suggesting he might have a knack for acting in a TV series or movie. The ever-inventive Ryan Garcia certainly knows how to keep his audience engaged.
