The peace and celebration of Independence Day on South Padre Island, Texas, were brutally interrupted by a terrifying shark attack that left a man and a woman seriously injured.

The incident occurred at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday in the calm waters off the 4100 block of Gulf Boulevard, right in the hotel zone of the island.

What began as a day of leisure and joy for numerous tourists enjoying the national holiday quickly turned into a scene of chaos and panic.

According to reports from the South Padre Island Fire Department, the man sustained a significant leg injury caused by the shark bite, while the woman was injured under circumstances yet to be confirmed.

Rescue Activities on South Padre Island

The area quickly filled with sirens and emergency lights. Officers from the Island Police Department and paramedics arrived at the scene, providing first aid to the man, whose identity has not been disclosed.

The severity of his injury necessitated an urgent transfer to a hospital in Brownsville, where his condition continues to be closely monitored.

Alarm spread across the beach, and authorities evacuated tourists and swimmers while a surveillance operation was launched by various agencies, including a helicopter from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

The island's spokesperson confirmed that the beach patrol, along with firefighters and police, are using drones to monitor the coast and ensure there are no further imminent threats.
