Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has introduced the Freedom Summer Sales Tax Holiday, a significant tax relief initiative for the Fiscal Year 2024/25. This holiday will span the entire month of July, making a wide range of items, including fishing gear, outdoor equipment, and admissions to state parks and museums, free from sales tax.

To kick off the summer festivities, Governor DeSantis also announced free entry to all Florida State Parks over Memorial Day Weekend, from May 24-27, 2024.

"Florida is stepping up to make summer more affordable for families," said Governor Ron DeSantis.

"While the federal government is causing high inflation and skyrocketing costs for families, Florida's smart fiscal policies allow us to reduce taxes and help reduce the burden on Floridians."

The Freedom Month Sales Tax Holiday is designed to ease the financial burden on families during the summer by eliminating sales tax on numerous seasonal items.

What items will you be able to get cheaper

Eligible items include boating and water activity supplies such as goggles and snorkels priced at $25 or less, pool toys at $35 or less, and coolers, life jackets, and paddles at $75 or less.

Additionally, larger items like inflatable water tubes and floats, wakeboards at $150 or less, paddleboards and surfboards at $300 or less, and canoes and kayaks at $500 or less are included.

Fishing enthusiasts can benefit from the tax exemption on bait and tackle (individual items at $5 or less, $10 or less for multiple items sold together), tackle boxes at $30 or less, and fishing reels and rods at $75 or less.

For campers, tax-free items include flashlights at $30 or less, sleeping bags and camping chairs at $50 or less, and tents at $200 or less.

Outdoor supplies eligible for the tax holiday include sunscreen at $15 or less, water bottles at $30 or less, bicycle helmets at $50 or less, outdoor grills at $250 or less, and bicycles at $500 or less.

Moreover, tickets for events and performances scheduled from July 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024, such as live music, sporting events, movies, ballets, plays, fairs, and festivals, will also be tax-free.

Additionally, admissions to museums and state parks, including annual passes, as well as season tickets for cultural events like ballets, plays, music concerts, and theater performances, are part of the tax relief initiative.
