The serene beaches of the Florida Keys, a popular tourist hotspot and a stunning archipelago close to Miami, are once again at the center of an unexpected and alarming discovery. Known for their crystal-clear waters and as a natural divider between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, these islands are also becoming notorious for their proximity to drug routes used by traffickers to transport illegal substances.

On a seemingly ordinary day, May 8, a beachgoer's leisurely time on the sandy shores took a dramatic turn. While soaking in the sun and sea, the individual stumbled upon a large bale containing a substantial amount of cocaine-approximately 29.5 kilograms.

According to the Border Patrol Miami sector, the street value of this find is estimated to be around 930,000 euros, or about one million dollars.

Upon discovering the narcotics, the vigilant sunbather immediately contacted the authorities, who quickly arrived to recover the illicit cargo. The United States Border Patrol released images showing the drugs wrapped in a plastic bag, secured with ropes.

Not the first incident

This incident is not an isolated one, highlighting a troubling trend in the region. Cocaine finds have been occurring with increasing frequency along the Florida coast.

For instance, in August of the previous year, Tampa Mayor Jane Castor found 32 kilograms of cocaine while vacationing in the Florida Keys. Another significant discovery was made in October, on the shores of Daytona Beach in Volusia County, where authorities retrieved over 30 kilograms of cocaine.
