Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco (shoulder) will not play against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, leaving fantasy football owners scrambling for a backup, and head coach Andy Reid left them more confused when he said Clyde Edwards-Helaire will start over Jerick McKinnon.
Reid, 65, didn't exactly lie, but he did give an answer that kind of bailed him out on actually naming a starting running back for Sunday's home game in Week 14 of the 2023 NFL season.
"Yes," Reid stated when asked if Edwards-Helaire would start over McKinnon, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. "We've got different personnel groups but yes, [Edwards-Helaire] is the number one guy, yes."
Reid's answer doesn't make too much sense and it's possibly only to throw off the opponent. McKinnon has been a much better RB than Edwards-Helaire.
Jerick McKinnon vs. Clyde Edwards-Helaire
McKinnon (25 percent rostered) finished last season with an incredible four-game run and has sporadically been a red zone option for Reid this year, scoring three touchdowns, two in one game.
Still, Edwards-Helaire (13 percent rostered) is gaining more touches and rushing yards than McKinnon, but has only scored one TD all season.
Pacheco's injury likely occurred due to him punching a Green Bay Packers player. His red zone usage has been among the league's highest this year and all that will have to go somewhere. Ignore Reid, stream McKinnon.
