Kate Middleton made a rare public statement amid her ongoing cancer treatment when she commemorated her friend Andy Murray following his final Wimbledon match.

The Princess of Wales, 42, a longtime supporter of Murray, marked the occasion with a message on the social media accounts she shares with Prince William.

“An incredible Wimbledon career comes to an end. You should be so very proud Andy Murray. On behalf of all of us, thank you!” she said Saturday.

Murray lost in the men’s doubles round he played Friday with brother Jamie Murray, against John Peers and Rinky Hijikata, at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

In an emotional post-match interview, the Grand Slam and U.S. Open champ told British press he “would love to keep playing but [he] can’t” due to the physical toll the sport has taken.

“Physically it’s just too tough now,” he said. “All of the injuries have added up and like I said, they haven’t been insignificant.”

Murray, who won Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016, withdrew earlier this week from the singles round he intended to play, following surgery to remove a spinal cyst.

This year’s Wimbledon was the first time in more than a decade that Middleton didn’t attend the tournament, according to People. The last time she sat out was in 2013 when she was mere weeks away from giving birth to Prince George.

Her parents were in attendance on Thursday.

The princess has largely kept a low profile since having abdominal surgery in January and revealing two months later she’d been diagnosed with cancer. Middleton has since been undergoing preventative chemotherapy.

“My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months,” she said in June ahead of attending the annual Trooping the Colour parade. “I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet.”
