The Committee was renamed during the Dáil term (24 May 2021) and was previously the Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht.

The Committee argues that the television licence fee should be abolished, with Exchequer funding of media managed by Coimisiún na Meán based on multiannual strategies and performance commitments.
