Motorcyclist airlifted to hospital after two-vehicle crash on A86 near Newtonmore

A motorcyclist has been airlifted to hospital following a two-vehicle crash on the A86 near Newtonmore.

The incident involving a car and a motorbike happened on the Kingussie to Spean Bridge road shortly after 11.30am today.

Police closed the A86 in both directions as paramedics assessed the casualty.

The motorcyclist was then transferred onboard the air ambulance before being flown to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for further treatment.

The road was closed for a short time as emergency crews responded, with drivers being urged to avoid the area.

The A86 has since reopened.

In a statement, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 11.40am on Monday, July 8, to a report of a crash on the A86 near Newtonmore involving a car and a motorbike.

“Emergency services attended and the motorcyclist was taken to hospital by helimed.

“The road was closed and reopened around 1.20pm.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson added: “We received a call at 11:32am to attend a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A86, south of Newtonmore.

“We dispatched one ambulance and one air ambulance to the scene. We transported one patient to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.”
