South America was the Latin American subregion with the highest drop in the number of foreign visitor arrivals in 2020 and 2021 as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In comparison to 2019, inbound tourism in the South American territory dropped 72 percent in 2020 and over 80 percent in 2021.
