MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A special ceremony was held at McAllen High School to honor the legacy of former student Moira Arney.

Arney, who would have graduated this year, died in the summer of 2021.

A well-rounded student, Arney was on the girls soccer and swimming teams. She also participated in theatre.

“She certainly inspired people she knew to do their best in athletics and academics,” said her father, McAllen girls soccer coach Pat Arney.

Her legacy is being celebrated with the creation of a special garden at the high school.

One of the key features of the garden is an eternal flame that represents the warmth she had for others.

“Just a way of in which we can keep that spirit alive and going,” Pat added.
