Our first significant heat wave of the season will develop this weekend and persist well into next week. The early to middle part of next week has the potential to threaten records with moderate to major values of Heat Risk. Hot and dry weather will also lead to increasing fire danger as our landscape becomes increasingly dry.
A Fire Weather Watch is in effect from from 2pm Friday through 9 pm Friday for the combination of gusty winds and low humidity. This can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them. Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as using fireworks, abandoning lit campfires, dragging trailer chains, driving over dry grass, target shooting, or outdoor work. Follow local fire restrictions. Check weather.gov/reno for updates and livingwithfire.info for preparedness tips.
