TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Detectives arrested a 19-year-old suspect due to an online extortion case, Tampa Police Detectives said Thursday.

A 16-year-old girl in Tampa reported being contacted by Christopher Patrinostro, who allegedly sent the victim nude photos of herself and demanded more, threatening to leak the photos online if she did not comply.

Tampa police said the victim contacted authorities, who opened an investigation that led to Patrinostro’s arrest at his Brandon home on Wednesday.

“This case highlights the courage it takes to come forward and report these types of crimes,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “The detectives who make up our ICAC Squad are committed to pursuing these offenders and holding them accountable. This is also a stark reminder of the importance of online safety, especially for our young people.”

Patrinostro is facing charges of extortion, promotion of a sexual performance by a child, use of a computer to solicit certain illegal acts, and unlawful use of a two-way communications device.

He is being held at the Orient Road Jail.
