Global network of heads of national road safety agencies

The Global network of heads of national road safety agencies supports government authorities that are charged with coordinating national road safety efforts. 

The network supports government-led efforts to establish and advance national road safety strategies to achieve the goal of halving road traffic deaths and injuries by 2030, as set out in the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021–2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. 

Road traffic crashes kill around 1.19 million people each year – more than two people each minute – and are the leading killer of children and young people aged 5–29 years.

National road safety agencies play a pivotal role in setting and steering road safety goals and efforts and to ensure safe, sustainable and equitable mobility by orchestrating collaboration across government and society, and monitoring, evaluating and adapting laws and regulations, among other functions.

Launched following the United Nations High-Level Political Declaration on Global Road Safety in June 2022, the WHO-hosted Network supports governments and partners in establishing the policies, coordination systems and actions to ensure safe mobility for all citizens. It fosters collaboration and learning, provides technical support, and monitors progress in countries against the Global Plan for the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021–2030.
