The Cincinnati Reds celebrated the first ever Ruth Lyons Children's Fund Day at Great American Ball Park on Sunday.A portion of the proceeds from each ticket of the game went to the Ruth Lyons Children's Fund, which supports children's healthcare in regional Greater Cincinnati hospitals.Ruth Lyons for decades hosted the 50-50 Club on WLWT between 1949 and 1967, which also briefly turned into a nationally syndicated broadcast by NBC in the early 1950s.The Ruth Lyons Children's Fund, founded by Lyons herself in 1939 under the name of the Ruth Lyons Christmas Fund, still lives on today under management by WLWT.More information about Ruth Lyons' life can be found here.WLWT meteorologist Randi Rico threw out the game's opening pitch to WLWT anchor Steven Albritton, who caught the ball.WLWT anchors Kelly Rippin and Megan Mitchell were also in attendance with Station Manager Branden Frantz and News Director Jeff Benscoter.The Reds would go on to lose 7-4 against the Boston Red Sox.
