We're excited to share the success of our recent participation at the Challenge the Fabric (CTF) event in Milan, hosted by Ekman and the Swedish Fashion Council! With 200 industry leaders, including pulp and fibre producers, designers, brand owners, spinners, fabric makers, and NGOs, it was an incredible platform for collaboration and innovation in the MMCF (Manmade Cellulosic Fibres) industry. Bernhard Riegler, VP Marketing Sappi Dissolving Pulp (Sappi Verve)’s impactful panel discussion on “Ensuring a Sustainable Supply of Woodfibres” showcased our strong commitment to sustainability, biodiversity, and social responsibility. His message resonated deeply with the audience, highlighting the positive impact of using wood-based fibres in textiles. We received excellent feedback and engaged in meaningful interactions that underscored the importance of sustainability and collaboration in driving the industry forward.

Yesterday, Sarah Price, our Sustainability Director at Sappi Europe, delivered a valuable presentation at the Sustainability Touchpoint at Drupa 2024 in Düsseldorf. Her keynote shed light on the pivotal role of removing emissions from the paper production process, significantly reducing the CO2 footprint of printed materials. Through insights into industry and Sappi's roadmap, partners across the value chain are better equipped to anticipate the evolving footprint of their products. Paper isn't merely renewable and circular; it's evolving into a climate-smart material. Continuous investments and groundbreaking innovations are driving this transformation. Bernhard Riegler, VP Marketing Dissolving Pulp (Sappi Verve), will join a panel discussion at Challenge the Fabric (CTF) taking place in Milan 14-15 May 2024. This is a two-day cross-industry initiative aiming to highlight sustainable forestry, material innovation, foster collaboration, and create change, by connecting the entire supply chain of man-made cellulosic fibres (MMCF).    Our participation as a bronze sponsor reflects our collaboration with the industry to collectively join hands in shaping the future. As part of the discussions, Bernhard will focus on the role of wood as a renewable fibre source for the textile industry and highlight sustainable plantation operations that is the essence of the Sappi Verve brand. Our group CEO, Steve Binnie, presented solid financial results for our second quarter, within a challenging macroeconomic environment and subdued market conditions. Our EBITDA increased to US $183 million, a 10% rise from the previous year 📈.   Improvements came through the pulp segment and significant cost savings. Notably, we achieved a 9% reduction in cash fixed costs with the closure of the Stockstadt and Lanaken mills in Europe.   Moreover, there has been a modest recovery in global paper markets following the extended destocking cycle in 2023. This performance reflects the hard work and dedication of our team.
