Avondale (/ˈævəndeɪl/) is one of Chicago's 77 officially designated community areas. It is on the Northwest Side of the city. The northern border is Addison Street from the north branch of the Chicago River in the east to Pulaski Road in the west. The neighborhood extends further west along Belmont Avenue to the Union Pacific/Northwest Line. Its southern border is Diversey Avenue from the Union Pacific/Northwest Line to the Chicago River.

Jej potoczna nazwa, funkcjonująca wśród Polonii, to Jackowo, która pochodzi od parafii i polskiego kościoła pw. św. Jacka, który usytuowany jest w samym sercu dzielnicy, przy ulicy Wolfram. Dzielnica Avondale została włączona w granice administracyjne miasta Chicago w 1889 roku wraz z miasteczkiem – obecnie dzielnicą miasta o nazwie Jefferson Park. Duże zagęszczenie fabryk w okolicy spowodowało, że w Avondale chętnie osiedlali się imigranci z Europy – zwłaszcza Niemcy, Skandynawowie i Polacy, którzy wybudowali tu polski kościół i zaczęli nazywać Jackowem rejon w którym mieszkali. Dziś Avondale to zróżnicowana pod względem etnicznym dzielnica z polskimi sprzedawcami na stacjach benzynowych i dziesiątkami polskich kawiarni, restauracji, biur i sklepów. Zwyczajowo Amerykanie określają Jackowo mianem Chicago's "Polish Village", czyli chicagowska "Polska wioska", właśnie taki napis widnieje tu na miejskich tablicach. W ostatnich latach w okolicach Avondale osiedla się coraz więcej emigrantów z Meksyku i Portoryko, a Polacy przeprowadzają się dalej na zachód metropolii lub na przedmieścia. (pl)
