Feedback from New Page Review process

[edit]

I left the following feedback for the creator/future reviewers while reviewing this article: Very nice work - you might be able to upload a few more drawings of the house to WikiCommons as the copyright may have expired on most. Would be lovely to have a drawing of the house in the infobox? well done.

Hi @Aszx5000, that would be great but I don't know much about those copyright things for old photographs. @Financefactz, might you have an old drawing of this house? Thanks, Ridiculopathy (talk) 13:53, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would suspect that the copyright on the images in this are gone. You could go to the copyright noticeboard on Wikicommons and they would verify it for you. Aszx5000 (talk) 21:15, 21 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Aszx5000@Ridiculopathy by chance I recently wrote a Wikipedia page on the illustrator of that image of Blessington House which is detailed on Archiseek. I am not sure what the original source of the archiseek image is by the original illustrator is Joseph Tudor and it was completed in 1745 so we can safely say it is out of copyright and free to use.Financefactz (talk) 11:56, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is great. The copyright helpdesk on WikiCommons is very active and excellent. They can quickly review old images available online and clarify copyright, which is then helpful to link to when uploading. Generally, anything made pre-1900 is going to be out of copyright imho. Nice work. Aszx5000 (talk) 12:18, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks both @Aszx5000 and @Financefactz. I've emailed archiseek to see if they have an un-watermarked version of the bigger drawing (the one that includes the text "A North Prospect of Blessingtown" etc at the bottom) but i'm not sure how active the person who runs it is. There is also a photoshop noticeboard on WikiCommons that removes watermarks from images and does other image editing, if that is helpful. Aszx5000 (talk) 12:32, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is the Commons:Graphic Lab/Photography workshop. Aszx5000 (talk) 12:34, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
